POST-DOCTORAL POSITION IN AIRBORNE MEASUREMENT OF ARCTIC METHANE EMISSIONS - MANCHESTER
This role represents an exciting opportunity to join the Centre for Atmospheric Science at the University of Manchester to work on an international project to assess climatically important sources, concentrations and environmental impacts of methane and other greenhouse gases in the Arctic (and global) environment as part of an integrated international field campaign and modelling study.
You will work alongside other project partners to assist in flying aircraft measurement missions using the FAAM aircraft (www.faam.ac.uk) during field campaigns within the Arctic Circle. You will use and tailor recently developed retrieval tools to derive and validate greenhouse gas concentrations from thermal infrared spectra measured by an aircraft FTIR; in conjunction with other aircraft, surface and satellite instrumentation. You will collaborate to use the measurement dataset to characterise Arctic airmasses in terms of local emissions and wider airmass history and to feed this knowledge into atmospheric modelling work.
You must hold or be about to obtain a PhD, or equivalent, in a relevant subject, with specialist knowledge in the area of atmospheric science. You must possess experience in programming and analysis using data handling software (e.g. IDL, MatLab), together with excellent communication and team working skills. Due to the nature of some of the research field work, some travel will be required on an aircraft to the arctic circle.
Please see https://www.jobtrain.co.uk/universityofmanchesterInternal/CandidatesAA/Preview.aspx?clientid=73&attachmentid=4562 for further info. Informal enquiries to contact Dr Grant Allen for informal enquiries (grant.allen@manchester.ac.uk<mailto:grant.allen@manchester.ac.uk>)
