CESBIO (www.cesbio.ups-tlse.fr<http://www.cesbio.ups-tlse.fr>) is opening an international internship position ("Volontaire International") in Tunisia. European nationals should apply as soon as possible for a starting date around 1st of October 2012. Tenure is one year term. The successful applicant will join a team of researchers at the National Institute of Agronomy in Tunis. Field trips in the Karirouan area are planned throughout the year (2 days every 15 days on average).
The intern will be in charge of maintaining and setting up current and future flux (FLUXNET-type) and meteorological stations, collecting and processing data streams from these stations, esp. eddy covariance data, organizing non-automatic data collection (leaf area index, gravimetric soil moisture, irrigation?) and calibration protocols, and building a comprehensive database. These tasks will be performed in cooperation with teams in Morocco and southwestern France with similar set ups.
The successful applicant should demonstrate expertise in several, if not all, of the following areas: hydrology, GIS, Remote Sensing, ecology, micrometeorology. The intern should be willing to learn and be familiar with automatic acquisition systems, dataloggers, station programming etc. Willingness to work independently and effectively as part of a team is essential. Ability to speak basic French, the language used every day in the work place, is crucial. Applicant should be warned that field work conditions can be rather harsh (hot summers).
Complete job description attached.
Monthly salary is 1400? (tax free)
Applications (CV + statement of interest) should be sent to gilles.boulet@ird.fr<mailto:gilles.boulet@ird.fr> before July 1st 2012.
