Tenure Track Faculty Position in Physical Oceanography

The Department of Ocean, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Old
Dominion University (http://sci.odu.edu/oceanography/) invites
applications for a tenure track position as Assistant or Associate
Professor in Physical Oceanography. We seek a broad-minded scholar
with an interest in the physical processes in the ocean on times
scales of inter-annual to centuries and their role in the Earth
System. Preference will be given to scientists who employ quantitative
analytical methods and/or models and focus their research on
societally relevant issues, such as global and climate change, the
role of the ocean in the global water cycle, and development of
predictive capabilities on decadal time scales. The successful
candidate should have excellent communication skills and a
demonstrated strong potential to establish a vigorous, well-funded
research program. She/he is also expected to teach graduate and
undergraduate classes, mentor graduate students, and work within a
multi-disciplinary department.

Qualifications for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor
include a PhD in oceanography or related science with postdoctoral
experience and a demonstrated ability to publish in peer-reviewed
journals. Appointment at the rank of Associate Professor will be
considered for candidates demonstrating of an exceptional track record
of scholarly independence, an active research program and commensurate
teaching experience.

Many opportunities exist for disciplinary and interdisciplinary
interactions with more than 25 other faculty in OEAS, its Centers for
Coastal Physical Oceanography (http://www.ccpo.odu.edu) and
Quantitative Fisheries Ecology and other departments within the
university. Information about the department and its facilities can be
found at: http://sci.odu.edu/oceanography/. Research funding by OEAS
faculty totaled over $6.2 M in FY11. An endowment of approximately $16
million provides additional support for departmental programs.

Indiana University-Bloomington invites applications for two faculty
positions in the Atmospheric Sciences program in the Department of
Geological Sciences to begin Fall Semester 2014. We seek exceptional
candidates who will complement our current departmental expertise in
atmospheric science and integrate with existing research strengths in
hydrology, geophysics, geomorphology, earth history, and climate change.
Applicants should have a doctoral degree in atmospheric science or
highly related discipline. While searching broadly in atmospheric
sciences, areas of preferred expertise include dynamic meteorology,
hydrometeorology, atmospheric fluid dynamics, large-scale atmospheric
processes, atmospheric thermodynamics, and climate dynamics. We
anticipate hiring at least one person in the general area of dynamic
meteorology (fluid dynamics) with a strong background in applied
mathematics and numerical methods. The successful applicants are
expected to develop a strong, externally funded program, to supervise
research by graduate and undergraduate students, and to teach
undergraduate courses in atmospheric science.

Access to Indiana University?s exceptional computing resources will be
provided at no cost to aid the successful candidate in pursuing an
independent, externally funded research program. Other campus resources
include extensive instrumentation, GIS and remote sensing facilities,
and a premiere geological field station available for research and
advanced training of students and professionals. Active collaboration
within and outside of the department is desirable and encouraged. The
Department of Geological Sciences offers B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degree
programs in Atmospheric Science, in addition to a Ph.D. minor in

POSITION: Tenure Track Assistant Professor (GIS/Remote Sensing/Modeling
Applications in Environmental Hydrology)
STARTING DATE: Fall, 2014

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: ABD or a Ph.D. in Geology, Geography,
Environmental Science, Soil Science, or a closely related discipline. A
Ph.D. from an accredited institution of higher education is required for
retention after the initial two year appointment. Candidates should
provide record of or potential for scholarly activity involving students
whenever possible, as well as the demonstrated potential for effective
teaching using a variety of methodologies. Candidates should also
demonstrate an ability or interest in teaching in a multicultural,
multiethnic campus.

DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: We are seeking candidates with broad
training in Environmental Hydrology using GIS/Remote Sensing/Models who
will be able to expand our course offerings in GIS/Remote Sensing and
Hydrological/Environmental applications. Expertise in one or more of the
following areas will be highly desired and befitting our strategic
growth over the next five years: geospatial analyses, remote sensing,
groundwater and/or surface water modeling, soil water/vegetative
transfer modeling. Proficiency in oral and written communication is
required. The ability to collect and process field data for
ground-truthing remote sensing is desirable. Climatologists with
research focus on hydrological cycles, water resources, etc are considered.

DUTIES: The successful applicant is expected to develop an active
program of research and teaching in areas of specialization and to work
with water resources and other departmental faculty to strengthen
existing graduate programs in hydrology and undergraduate training in
geology, geography, hydrology, and urban planning. Specific duties will
include: teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, developing
water resources and environmental science curriculum, maintaining an
active research program, participating in University service, and
advising undergraduate and graduate students.

Brown University?s Environmental Change Initiative (ECI)

distinguished postdoctoral positions in interdisciplinary environmental
science. Established in 2004, ECI catalyzes collaborative research among
15 affiliated academic units and over 50 individual researchers.
Particular strengths include remote sensing and spatial analysis, earth
systems history, population studies, environmental sociology, coastal
and marine ecology, biogeography, and climate change adaptation.
Emerging areas of emphasis include the intersection of climate change
with human health, well-being, and culture. Brown University also
maintains a research and education partnership with the Marine
Biological Laboratory (MBL) in Woods Hole, including the Ecosystems
Center <http://www.mbl.edu/ecosystems/> and the Josephine Bay Paul
Center n Comparative Molecular Biology and Evolution

Appointments will be in the Environmental Change Initiative and
cooperating departments, with an expected term of two years. Associates
receive a salary of $50,000, plus benefits and a discretionary fund of
$5,000/year in addition to any research funds that may be directed to

Requirements for the positions include a Ph.D. in an
environmentally-related discipline, the intellectual flexibility to
reach across fields, ability to take initiative and work independently,
and demonstrated interest in interdisciplinary environmental study. To
