Our Research and Development team within the Catastrophe Risk Management Department is looking for an outstanding candidate to fill a new position. This challenging and rewarding role will allow contributing to the advancement of the development of Aspen?s fundamental knowledge on all aspects of storm and flood risk, independently of licensed vendor catastrophe models. This position will focus on the following perils: tropical cyclones, extratropical cyclones, tornados, hail, and flood, mainly from a reinsurance point of view. The main duties of the role will include:
Evaluating appropriate vendor models (e.g. RMS, EQE, AIR) for storm and flood risk, from the scientific background to the loss output.
Advancing Aspen?s tropical cyclone research and development through collaboration with academic partners and in-house model development.
Severe weather and flood event reporting and analysis.
Providing scientific background on weather risks in key exposure zones worldwide.
Following the scientific development of severe weather science and vulnerabilities.
The successful candidate will be qualified to degree level or similar in Atmospheric sciences or climatology and will possess strong statistical, analysis and decision making skills with commercial acumen. The individual will be a highly motivated self-starter who enjoys using his/her initiative, being regarded as an effective team player with the ability to work under pressure and adapt to changes in a fluid commercial environment. An advanced command of the English language (both oral and written), is required with advanced knowledge of any kind of data analysis or statistical tools (e.g. R, Matlab, or IDL). Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Internet software and basic knowledge of programming, databases (especially MS SQL Server), GIS, and vendor models would be an advantage.
