Two Research Faculty Positions at the Atmospheric Sciences Research Center, SUNY Albany
The Atmospheric Sciences Research Center (ASRC) of the University at Albany, State University of New York, seeks to hire two tenure-track Research Faculty, effective Fall 2013. These University supported 10-month appointments allow for supplementary summer salary from external research funding. These positions are part of a multi-year initiative to expand the University?s capacity in the areas of climate, environment, and energy. We currently seek to fill two positions, one in each of the following two areas:
? Energy Meteorology and Climate with an emphasis on Solar Energy Applications - The ideal candidate would have expertise to carry out research in solar resource assessment, including numerical weather prediction of clouds and/or irradiance as well as environmental and climatic impact assessment.
? Ecohydrology ? This candidate?s research would ideally address the spatial and temporal variability of water and energy cycles and their impacts land-surface-atmosphere interaction and climatic extremes.
Outstanding candidates from other areas of atmospheric science will also be considered and are encouraged to apply. The successful candidates will be expected to strengthen ASRC and the university through (i) maintaining a strong externally funded research program; (ii) working with colleagues at ASRC and throughout the university on mutually beneficial research programs; (iii) recruit and mentor graduate students; and (iv) participating as necessary in service to the Center and the University. While not a requirement, successful candidates will have the option of making arrangements to teach in one or more University departments.
For more information about ASRC, please refer to http://asrc.albany.edu. For information on the application process, please visit http://albany.interviewexchange.com/jobofferdetails.jsp?JOBID=35230. Review of applications will begin December 1st, 2012 and positions will remain open until filled. Questions about the positions can be addressed to Qilong Min (qmin@albany.edu, 518-437-8742) or Richard Perez (rperez@albany.edu, 518-437-8751).

Post-Doc position ?Mesoscale Modelling? at Goethe-University Frankfurt (Germany)
We are happy to announce a Post-Doc position (100% TV-G-U E13) at the Institute for Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences in the group for Mesoscale Meteorology and Climate. The position is available for a period of 4 years with possible extension for two more years. Further information on our institute can be found on the web at http://www.geo.uni-frankfurt.de/iau.
The improvement of our understanding of the mesoscale processes and the interfaces between sea-surface, land and atmosphere, which are key areas in regional climate systems, will be the main goal for the candidate. The regional climate model of our choice is COSMO-CLM (www.clm-community.eu), which has its own a land surface model and furthermore, it was coupled to an ocean model (NEMO) in our group. Active co-operation within our group is essential and as well with our partners (e.g. DWD, BiK-F, HyMeX). Besides the own research, support of PhD students and teaching are on the task list. We are looking for a highly self-motivated person, who has good communication and programming skills.
The requirements for this position are: University degree in meteorology, mathematics or a related subject, PhD degree in one of the aforementioned areas; excellent computer and statistics skills; English language skills (German is of advantage but not required); and good communication skills. For more information, please contact Bodo.Ahrens@iau.uni-frankfurt.de (tel: +49 69 798 40244). Deadline for applications is extended to Nov 16, 2012. If you are interested in this position, please submit your CV, a short statement on planned research, and further information (e.g. list of publications) per e-mail as a single pdf-file attachment to: Andrea Radomilja Ruiz <RadomiljaRuiz@iau.uni-frankfurt.de>.
The Goethe-University is determined to increase the number of female researchers. Therefore, applications from qualified women are strongly encouraged. In addition, the Goethe-University is an equal-opportunity employer and in case of candidates with equal qualifications and aptitude, preference will be given to handicapped applicants.

Dear colleagues,
My group at Colorado State University welcomes applications for a
post-doc or early-career research scientist to perform research related
to the upcoming Orbiting Carbon Observatory (OCO-2) mission, scheduled
to launch in July 2014. This could be an exciting opportunity for a
senior-level student or early-career scientist with an interest in
satellite remote sensing. Our group at CSU develops and applies
retrieval algorithms for column-mean carbon dioxide concentration from
satellite-based measurements of reflected sunlight, and uses this
information to better understand processes related to the global carbon
cycle. This technology may ultimately provide a mechanism to monitor
anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions in a treaty-relevant manner.
The position will entail analyzing both simulated OCO-2 data as well as
data currently being generated by the Greenhouse Gases Observing
Satellite (GOSAT), with which we work a great deal. Our team
collaborates extensively with both the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory,
as well as numerous scientists around the world. The position is for a
minimum of 1 year and may be renewable. Salary is a minimum of $46K per
year (USD), but may be higher depending on the successful applicant's
qualifications. For a complete position description and information on
how to apply, please visit
<http://www.atmos.colostate.edu/dept/employment.php>.
To ensure full consideration, applications should be submitted by
November 16, 2012. The successful applicant should have a PhD in a
quantitative field of research completed by the position start date. If
you have questions or seek further information related to this position,
please contact me directly, and I look forward to hearing from you!
Sincerely,
