Post title: Research Fellow in Global Scale Atmospheric Pollution and Climate Modelling
SBU: Centre for Atmospheric and Instrumentation Research ? Physics, Astronomy & Maths
Salary range: ?25,251 - ?27,578 per annum depending on skills and experience
Salary scale: UH6
FTE: This is a full time position for 37 hours per week
Duration of contract: This is a fixed term contract for a period of two years and is available
immediately
We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated scientist to contribute to research
programmes on modelling of atmospheric pollution and climate and associated impacts of air
quality on global and regional scales. Particular focus will be on the use of global scale air
pollution models to simulate aerosols and ozone distributions at high resolutions by
interfacing with regional models and so improve our understanding of how large scale
forcing can influence atmospheric composition on continental scales.
You must have a good first degree in a relevant subject and a PhD in atmospheric
modelling. Strong experience in the use of advanced regional and global air pollution and/or
climate models operating on LINUX platforms, programming languages (eg FORTRAN) and
associated visualisation techniques will be essential. Experience of using different modelling
approaches, interfacing regional and global models and use of large datasets in community
standard formats will be important. You should also have experience of critically analysing
model predictions with available measurements and relate these to underlying mechanisms
and multiscale processes. You must also have excellent skills in writing and speaking
English and a good track record of publishing papers in high quality journals.
Additional information: Please include your full CV (with contact details of three referees)
