SENIOR COASTAL SCIENTIST / ENGINEER
JBA Consulting (www.jbaconsulting.com<http://www.jbaconsulting.com/>) are currently seeking an experienced scientist or engineer to join our Coastal Risk Management team based in our Skipton office, North Yorkshire, UK. This is a senior position and applicants must have proven experience in coastal modelling or engineering. The successful candidate for this post will be expected to perform as a technical specialist and a project/resource manager. The candidate will also be responsible for preparing project reports of a very high standard, presenting work to clients, and mentoring and reviewing the work of junior staff. A UK work permit is required for any foreign applicants. The successful candidate will be based in our Skipton office, North Yorkshire (UK).
Qualifications and Experience
- Applicants are expected to have an MSc or PhD in Oceanography, Civil or Offshore Engineering or another relevant Geo-science. Chartered status (CIWEM, ICE) is desirable and an established UK work permit is required for any foreign applicants.
- Applicants should have a strong and broad technical background with at least five years' experience in a relevant position. Although not essential, some UK consultancy experience is preferable.
Expertise with respect to some or all of the following is required:
- Coastal geomorphology (coastal erosion analysis, erosion management, beach management);
- Numerical modelling (e.g., sediment transport modelling, flood inundation, wave transformation, wave overtopping, water quality);
- Extreme sea level and wave analysis;
- Flood forecasting;
- Climate change;
- Coastal flood defence design and engineering;
- Development of Shoreline Management Plans;
- Wave and tidal-stream energy technology.
Of particular importance for this position is experience with respect to the analysis and numerical modelling of sediment transport processes. JBA Consulting is a heavily client focused organisation. Excellent communication skills are therefore essential to this role. Self motivation and a high degree of organisation are also essential.
