Postdoctoral Position in Global Climate Change
The Center for Ocean-Land-Atmosphere Studies is looking for a
self-motivated postdoctoral research scientist in the area of global
climate change. The incumbent will join a multi-institutional project
for climate change experiments using an advanced multi-scale model of
climate system, SP-ESM (Super Parameterized Earth System Model). The
selected candidate will investigate the effect of increased greenhouse
concentrations on the Earth?s climate system with the aim of
understanding the mechanisms responsible for the projected climate
changes. Particular attention will be given to dynamical and
cloud-radiative processes, extreme events, and coupled ocean-atmosphere
feedback mechanisms in future climate scenarios. The successful
candidate is also expected to take a leadership role in preparation of
manuscripts for publication and conference participation.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in atmospheric sciences or a related field,
with experience in climate variability or climate change.
The appointment will be for one year, with renewal for a second year,
given satisfactory performance. For consideration, interested and
qualified applicants should submit a cover letter including a statement
of research interests, a curriculum vita, and contact information of two
professional references to the COLA PostDoc Search Committee (Dr.
Cristiana Stan, chairperson; stan@cola.iges.org
<mailto:stan@cola.iges.org>). Applications received before 15 December
2012 will receive highest priority.

Post?Doctoral Research Fellow Positions
1) Atmosphere and climate physics
2) Statistical Hydro-climatology
The Water & Environmental Engineering Program (WEE) at Masdar Institute invites applications for a Post-doctoral Research Fellow in the field of Atmospheric science. The successful applicant will conduct research as part of joint research project between Masdar Institute (MI) and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The work will be carried out in the Statistical Hydro-climatology lab of Prof. Taha BMJ Ouarda.
The project aims to study the regional and global climate oscillations and their relations to the regional climate variables to provide better climatological models and hence model the surface-atmosphere interactions in a better way.
About Masdar Institute:
Masdar Institute (www.masdar.ac.ae) is the world's first graduate-level university dedicated to providing real-world solutions to issues of sustainability. The Institute's goal is to become a world-class research-driven graduate-level university, focusing on advanced energy and sustainable technologies. The Institute, which was created in collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), integrates theory and practice to incubate a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship, working to develop the critical thinkers and leaders of tomorrow. Masdar Institute is situated in Masdar City (www.masdar.ae), an emerging global clean-technology cluster that aims to be one of the world's most sustainable urban developments, powered by renewable energy and providing students and researchers with a unique opportunity to live and learn in a true "living laboratory" environment.
Requirements for Position 1:
Applicants should have a profound interest in understanding the coupled climate system, hold a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline (Hydrology, Climate Sciences, Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or Statistics), and possess a strong background in one or more of three following fields: (a) Dynamic climatology and atmospheric sciences, (b) Physical hydrology and hydro-climatology, and (c) Stochastic modeling of hydro-meteorological processes. The candidate is expected to have an excellent communication abilities and a good knowledge of the English language. Proficiency in programming competency with software such as Matlab and/or R is a must. The successful candidate is expected to have demonstrated excellence in research and scholarship as reflected in peer-reviewed publications.
Requirements for Position 2:
PhD in statistics or applied statistics but other disciplines that include a rigorous training in statistics will be considered. Practical experience in statistical modeling and/or data mining would be an asset. Experience with using Bayesian methods is desired. The candidate is expected to have an excellent communication abilities and a good knowledge of the English language. Proficiency in programming competency with software such as Matlab and/or R is a must. The successful candidate is expected to have demonstrated excellence in research and scholarship as reflected in peer-reviewed publications.

The compensation package for this position is very competitive with annual tax-exempt net salary ranging between US$ 70k and US$ 80k. Additional benefits include: annual two-way airfare to home country, one-time moving allowance, free comprehensive international medical coverage and other components.
Application:
The application package should include:
? A cover letter summarizing experience and motivation for this position.
? Curriculum Vitae including a list of publications if any.
? A list of 2-3 potential referees.
Applications should be submitted by email to Dr. Prashanth Marpu (pmarpu@masdar.ac.ae). Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
