Dear Sir/Madam,
The Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change (CMCC) is now inviting
applications from qualified candidates for a Junior Research Associate
Position to work on developments of ice sheet models, currently in use
at CMCC for Earth System modeling.
The location is CMCC – Ocean modeling and Data Assimilation Division in
Bologna, Italy.
The primary purposes for this position is to perform development and
assessment of the ice sheet model embedded in the CMCC Earth System
model and in particular the ocean-ice dynamical interactions.
The desired qualifications are:
Master degree in Geophysical Sciences, Applied Mathematics, or related
disciplines;
Knowledge of high-performance computing environment and programming
languages, especially Fortran;
Knowledge of UNIX/Linux operating systems and scripting languages;
Knowledge of post-processing/statistical/graphical tools to analyze
large geophysical datasets;
Fluency in English.
The following experiences will be welcome:
Experience of parallel programming and debugging on supercomputers (MPI,
OpenMP);
Good knowledge of the file formats used in Earth system modeling and
their I/O libraries (NetCDF, GRIB, HDF);
Good knowledge of scientific software (such as Python, NCO, CDO, NCL,
GrADS, MatLab, R, etc.);
Good communication skills and ability to work in an interdisciplinary team.
Belonging to legally protected categories (ex L. 68/99) will constitute
a preferential condition.
The initial appointment is for 12 months starting as soon as possible at
an annual salary ranging from 22€ to 28 k€, comprehensive of benefits,
depending on qualification and experience.
