PCIC is currently seeking to hire a Hydrology Analyst to analyse and
manage hydrology data that assists PCIC hydrologists. Working under the
supervision of the Lead, Hydrologic Impacts, the incumbent will provide
the primary support to quality check, analyse, archive and document

Pacific Climate Impacts Consortium (PCIC)
The Pacific Climate Impacts Consortium (PCIC) was created to assess
climate impacts in the Pacific and Yukon Region of Canada. The goals of
the Consortium are to foster collaborative research, to strengthen the
capacity to address regional climate change and variability, and to
provide the sci e ntific basis for development of policy. PCIC is a
regional climate service centre at the University of Victoria that
provides practical information on the physical impacts of climate
variability and change. Through collaboration with climate researchers
and regional stakeholders, PCIC produces knowledge and tools in support

Challenge
The Hydrology Analyst will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to
analyse and manage hydrology data that assists PCIC hydrologists. The
incumbent will provide the primary support to quality check, analyse,
archive and document water temperature data for select watersheds in
British Columbia.
Nature of Work
The Hydrology Analyst works under the supervision of the Lead,
Hydrologic Impacts. The position will also receive strong scientific
guidance from Research Scientists at the Water and Climate Impacts
Research Centre. This position is funded under the Science Horizons
Youth Internship Program (see Environment Canada Science Horizons for
more information).
Accountabilities
Assemble a digital archive of existing water temperature data for
streams and lakes in British Columbia, including appropriate metadata
and documentation.
Data quality assessment and quality checking (QA/QC).
Support scientists with analysis tasks.
Produce summary report.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge and Experience
Bachelor?s degree in a relevant field of study (such as
geosciences, geography, environmental sciences or engineering).
Experience with data processing and analysis.
An understanding of the concepts behind data management as asset.
Hydrology or water quality background an asset.
Math and statistics background an asset.
Skill
Excellent computer skills.
Excellent communication skills.
Programming experience, preferably in GNU R as asset.
GIS skills an asset.
Ability
Ability to manage time series and spatial data.
Work with team members and co-workers effectively.
Willing to be flexible with job duties.
Employment period
6 month term commitment.
Weekly working hours
Full time (37.5 hours per week)

The College of the Environment has an opportunity for a part time
communications specialist and science writer (75 to 100% time). This
person will support the communications activities of the Northwest
Climate Science Center (NW CSC). The NW CSC was established by the
Department of the Interior in 2010 to address the challenges of climate
change in the northwestern United States The NW CSC is one of eight
regional climate science centers and is a federally led research
collaboration hosted by three primary universities: Oregon State
University, the University of Idaho, and the University of Washington.
Research at the NW CSC provides objective scientific information and
tools that Northwest managers of land, water, wildlife, and cultural
resources can use to anticipate, monitor, and adapt to climate change.
This position will be supervised by UW director of the NW CSC. Working
with other staff at the NW CSC, the incumbent will have primary
responsibility to implement the center?s communications strategy, which
has two overarching goals:
1. Facilitate development and dissemination of Northwest climate-related
science, information, and tools to support management of natural and
cultural resources under changing climate conditions; and
2. Increase access to and understanding of Northwest climate-related
science and data.

To support these goals, the communications specialist will work on a
broad range of documents about climate change research projects
supported by the center and participate in or manage the reporting,
writing, editing, designing, and dissemination of web pages, brochures,
project profiles, internal and external newsletters, and related
materials. The target audiences are scientists; resource managers;
legislators, policy makers, and administrators; and the general public.
The position is part time (at least 75%, with benefits) with flexible
hours and working location.
Job Duties:
? Implement the Communications agenda of the NW CSC in conjunction with
regional partners.
? Research, write, edit, and publish web articles about NW CSC.
? Write synthesis reports based on published papers.
? Finalize and post web content to keep online information up-to-date.
? Develop materials for public presentations.
? Work with others to proofread and edit documents for sense, clarity,
accuracy, and effectiveness.
? Evaluate communications program effectiveness.
Requirements:
? Bachelor?s degree and 3 years experience, master?s and 1 year preferred.
? Demonstrated familiarity with climate change science, issues, and
contexts.
? Excellent writing and editing skills (provide portfolio examples).
? One to three years experience working in science writing and/or
communications.
? Project coordination experience, with proven attention to detail.
? Experience with web content management systems (e.g. Wordpress) and
standard office software (e.g. Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, or equivalent).
Equivalent education/experience may substitute for minimum requirements.
Desired:
? Experience in oral communications and public speaking.
? Basic knowledge of web design software and layout, e.g. Dreamweaver.

BAS-Serco Ltd., a Bermudian joint venture company offering facilities

motivated individual who is a certified Meteorological Forecaster, to join
the Bermuda Weather Service. The successful applicant will join our team of
dedicated professionals, monitoring the weather, producing forecasts and
warnings for aviation, marine interests and the general public.
The successful Meteorological Forecaster candidate will:
? be a qualified Meteorologist, by any of the following
criteria:
a) hold a recognized Bachelor of Science degree in
Meteorology with one year operational experience
b) hold a recognized Bachelor of Science in Mathematics
or Science with three years forecasting experience in an operational
environment
c) have ten-years forecasting experience in an
operational environment
? be certified as having completed aeronautical forecaster training,
approved by the World Meteorological Organization
? be willing to attend in-house and overseas training courses and
have a strong desire to improve skills and knowledge;
? be willing to work rotating 12 hour shifts, weekends & public
holidays;
? demonstrate excellent presentation skills including a high degree
of oral and written communication;
? have a strong sense of loyalty, motivation, dedication and a high
degree of commitment and interest/passion for weather.
? be able to balance team work with the ability to work as an
independent forecaster
? be able to make rapid and effective decisions in reaction to
changing weather patterns
? react calmly during periods of high operational workload and be
able to prioritize effectively
? be able to deal comfortably with clients at all levels, including
the general public, the media, police and emergency services.
