Extreme Weather Expertises (EXWEXS) offers a One year Post-Doctoral
position based in Paris ? France.
Applications are invited for one postdoctoral research fellowship starting
end 2013 or beginning 2014, in Paris, France, to work on the following
Impact Of Anthropogenic Deforestation And Heat Release On Local And
Regional Atmospheric Circulation Over Tropical Africa
(12-months contract).
EXWEXS is a private company performing high level climatic and
atmospheric diagnostics related to extreme weather events and dramatic
meteorological changes associated to environmental modification. The up
to date scientific knowledge is one of our most important quality
requirement. Consequently, all the studies performed by the company are
made under the scientific approach and ethic including criticism of the
results. For the purpose, all the information and methods are used by
EXWEXS, from in-situ data collection, remote data and high resolution
modelling.
The subject proposed is associated to a client request about the local
and regional meteorological effect of the implementation of an industrial
plant replacing an African tropical forest as well as the effect of an
important upward surface heat release from the industrial processes.
In order to complete the study, the applicant will achieve a bibliographic
review about the deforestation and the surface heat release followed by
some sensitivity studies performed with the WRF atmospheric model
within a high performance computing center. A particular focus on the
effect of several terrestrial surface conditions (land, trees ? green
covers -, heat release) will lead to define a modelling plan for the sensitivity
studies.
The candidates should have knowledge on numerical atmospheric
modelling with the WRF model, and land surface effects on the
atmosphere (surface turbulent heat flux releases). They should have a
previous experience with the high performance computing and should
be familiar with the Fortran programming language, the Linux environment
(Shell), with data analysis and some graphic softwares (for instance: NCL,
Ferret, Grads, Python,...). Knowledge in tropical meteorology will be
appreciated.
Education: Phd in atmospheric science or equivalent with less
than 3 years after Phd.
The successful candidate will be based in the offices of our client, in
Paris.
The net monthly salary will vary, depending on qualification.
Application should be done by email by sending a resume,
a motivation letter, and the names, telephone and email address of
2 referees to: <exwexs@gmail.com>.

Postdoc researcher in the domain of sea level research (1,0 fte)
Job description
IMAU is looking for a motivated Postdoctoral researcher (m/f) to work on sea level projections building on the work we have done over the last few years. Until recently, sea level projections were mainly on a global scale and uncertainties were poorly constrained. In this project we will try to bridge the gap between these global scale projection and the need of coastal management. We will explore possibilities to address the probability of sea level rise at a local scale for future warmer climate states. Emphasize will be at the North-Sea region.
Qualifications
Applicants preferably have a strong background in meteorology/geophysics at PhD level, and have experience with numerical (climate) models and programming on UNIX-based computer systems. Good English oral and writing skills are essential and a track record of published papers is a prerequisite.
Offer
The candidate is offered a full-time position for 3 years. The salary ranges between ? 2,403.- and ? 4,418.- gross per month. The salary is supplemented with a holiday bonus of 8% and an end-of-year bonus of 8,3% per year.
In addition we offer: a pension scheme, a partially paid parental leave, flexible employment conditions. Conditions are based on the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities. The research group will provide the candidate with necessary support on all aspects of the project. More information look at our terms of employment<http://www.uu.nl/EN/informationfor/jobseekers/Working-for-Utrecht-University/terms-of-employment/Pages/default.aspx>.
