The Department of Meteorology and Climate Science at San Jos? State University has several Graduate Assistant positions available for the 2014-2015 academic year. In addition to Teaching Assistant (TA) positions, there are Research Assistant (RA) positions in areas of climate modeling, fire weather and wildfire dynamics, mesoscale and tropical cyclone modeling, mountain meteorology and wind energy applications. A research post-doctoral position is opened at CNRM Toulouse for a contribution to the research project MORDICUS (Mechanisms for climate oscillations and retroactions at decadal timescale : uncertainties and sensitivity). MORDICUS is a project financed by the French National Research Agency (ANR : http://www.agence-nationale-recherche.fr/Intl ). The proposed job is described in attachment. Expertise in atmospheric science (preferably in aerosol physics), experience in climate modeling and recommendations will be considered as selection criteria for this position.

The CMCC is taking into consideration the possibility to hire talented,
motivated and proactive post-docs to develop advanced data assimilation
techniques for ocean regional forecasting.
This position is open under the sponsorship of the Italian project
?development of TEchnologies for the Situational Sea Awareness? (TESSA)
(http://tessa.linksmt.it) awarded to CMCC by the Italian Ministry of
Education, University and Research. The TESSA project will develop a set
of products and services for Situational Sea Awareness based on new
operational oceanography environmental data integrated into advanced
technological platforms for users in the maritime sector, tourism and
environmental protection.
The location is CMCC Ocean-Lab in Lecce, (Le), Italy.
The primary purposes for this position is to perform reserch and
development of ensemble and hybrid ensemble-variationl data assimilation
system with the ocean forecasting systems available at Ocean-Lab and in
conjuction with the ensemble ocean forecasting. The ensemble products
will also be developed to be used in the Decision Support Systems (i.e
Oil spill forecasting, search and rescue, ship routing, etc.)
The desired Minimum qualifications are:
PhD in Physics, mathematics, earth science or related disciplines;
Knowledge of UNIX/Linux operating systems;
Knowledge of script languages (i.e. UNIX shell, Python);
Knowledge of programming languages (i.e. Fortran, C);
Fluency in English;
Following experiences will be very welcome:
Knowledge of Data Assimilation techniques;
Knowledge of numerical modelling;
Knowledge in parallel programming (i.e. OpenMP, MPI);
The initial appointment is for 12 months starting as soon as possible at
an annual salary ranging from 28K to 36K Euros, comprehensive of

The minimum qualifications are:
Ph.D. in Numerics or related disciplins;
Good knowledge of parallel numerical libraries (PETSc)

Basic knowledge on High Performance Computing;

research activity on the costal ocean model in the context of the TESSA
Project.

optimization, and execution of the unstructured grid finite element
model on IBM architecture for operational use in the TESSA Project. In
particular the activity will be focused on parallelization of the model
using the message passing parallel approach and the identification of
the most computationally intensive kernels and their optimization on
multi-core architectures. Different aspects must be considered for the
optimization: to identify and reduce the load unbalance between parallel
tasks; to reduce communication overhead; to better exploit the hardware
architecture through the use of optimal mapping strategies; to improve
parallelization; to adopt efficient solution for I/O; to introduce
hybrid level of parallelism.
The minimum qualifications are:
Bachelor degree in Computer Engineering or in Computer Science or
related disciplines;
Good knowledge on High Performance Computing;
Experience on use of parallel architectures;
Good knowledge of parallel programming environment and libraries (MPI,
OpenMP)
Good knowledge of Fortran, C and bash scripting
Good knowledge of both written and spoken English language.
The desired qualifications are:
Master Degree or PhD in Computer Engineering or in Computer Science or
related disciplines;
Good knowledge on profiling tools for parallel applications;
Basic knowledge on ocean models;
The initial appointment is for 12 months starting from 1 April 2014 at
