Dear all
Please note the PhD opportunity in the Center Observation, Impacts, Energy (O.I.E.), MINES ParisTech - Sophia Antipolis, France (2014/10/01 - 2017/09/30)
Analysis of the variability of the surface solar radiation in space and time. Application to forecast
Context and challenges
Electricity production by photo-voltaic or concentrated solar technologies is intermittent by nature. Intermittency needs to be handled by electricity distribution system operators (DSO). One solution lies on accurate forecasts of solar radiation at different horizons. Several methods have been published. However, only a limited number of works have dealt with the characteristic scales of the radiation field in space and time. Analysis of these scales is a prerequisite in forecast; it will indicate the various domains where forecast can be done with a given quality.
Scientific objectives
The objectives are to i) propose a method for analyzing the characteristic scales of the radiation field in space and time, ii) to model the variability of the field, and iii) to apply this model to the forecasts of the solar radiation.
