There is now an opportunity to work at METEO FRANCE in the frame
of the programme COPERNICUS from UE regarding the generation
of surface albedo products at 300M resolution from PROBAV sensor
(the follow-on of SPOT VEGETATION).

R&D activities will be conducted to separate main surface components
(soil, vegetation, snow) after a decomtamination of aerosol signal.
Methods have published that now require an adaptation to PROBA-V characteristics.

About context and statement of work, also some information about
the procedure how to candidate are all described in the job offer
document attached.

Oceanographer (Postdoctoral Research Associate)
Directorate of Science and Technology, Liverpool

About the Role:
We seek an all-round oceanographer, with experience of working with hydrographic data and/or models. Examples of desirable skills on the observational side are calibration, quality control, analysis and interpretation of oceanographic data. Experience with turbulence measurement and interpretation would be an advantage. On the modelling side, desirable skills are an ability to configure and run experiments with ocean circulation models and analysis of large model output. You will join a team of physical oceanographers and geologists contributing to the OSCAR (Oceanographic and Seismic Characterisation of heat dissipation and alteration by hydrothermal fluids at an Axial Ridge) project, which aims at better understanding the interactions between hydrothermal and geothermal fluxes through the sea floor and the ocean's abyssal circulation.
You will use a large set of hydrographic and turbulence variables collected during the observational part of the project (two fieldwork campaigns in 2014 and 2015) to investigate the impact of deep ocean thermal sources on ocean currents, and heat and tracer transport and mixing. You will also use a high-resolution ocean circulation model (HYCOM) to simulate abyssal circulations in the Panama Basin, which are greatly influenced by hydrothermal/geothermal fluxes. You will be encouraged to participate in the OSCAR cruises, if appointed in time, and to interact with project partners in NOC-Southampton, University of Durham, University College London, University of Oxford, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and GEOMAR throughout the duration of the project.

This is a 3-year Fixed Term Appointment position offered on NERC terms and conditions including a UK SBS pension scheme, 30 days annual leave with a further 10.5 public/privilege days.

Salary Range: ?26,715 - ?30,000 per annum

About You:
You will have experience in observational and/or numerical oceanography, a PhD in physical oceanography (or equivalent research experience), a first or 2: I degree in a numerate physical, environmental science or mathematics discipline and be skilled at data analysis. You will be expected to publish in the relevant peer reviewed literature.

About Us:
The National Oceanography Centre (NOC), part of the Natural Environment Research Council, is a national research organisation, delivering integrated marine science and technology from the coast to the deep ocean and is one of the top five institutions of its kind in the world. With sites in Liverpool and Southampton, it is the UK's leading centre for sea level science, coastal and deep ocean research and technology development. Working closely with its partners and associates, it provides capability to meet needs across the UK marine science community (http://noc.ac.uk/).

How to apply:
Informal enquiries (please do not send CV's) should be directed to Miguel Maqueda (mamm@noc.ac.uk), David Smeed (das@noc.ac.uk) or Alex Megann (apm@noc.ac.uk).

Applications are handled by the UK SBS; to apply please visit our website at http://www.topcareer.jobs/Vacancy/irc156813_4675.aspx quoting reference number IRC156813. If you are unable to apply online please contact us by telephone on 00 44 (0) 1793 867000.
Closing date: 1 October 2014
