We are looking for a postdoc on hypoxia in the Berre lagoon.
We require a biogeochemistry qualified PostDoc to take the lead in field and lab experiments in the frame of
PREDHYPO, a 18 months project which goal is to identify the major links between sediment and water envolved
in hypoxia events in coastal waters. The consequences of hypoxia are largely known at the individual or
community scales but the origins and the driving processes are often unclear. Literature describes local control
by physical and/or biological processes (altered hydrodynamics and eutrophication), remote control (global
change) or even natural variability. In the coastal zone, sediment is a huge reservoir of organic matter (OM) and
oxygen the primary oxidant used by microbial community for aerobic OM mineralization. As a result sediments
are the most important sink for oxygen diffusing from above and a compartment which could have a large
influence for hypoxia in the water column.
Candidates are expected to have experience in biogeochemistry and/or microbial ecology, a PhD in
oceanography, in marine or environmental sciences. Previous experience in field or lab experiments and
measurements in coastal ecosystems is required.
Full details are given in the attachment.
