The Department of Geography at Rutgers University seeks Ph.D students
interested in climate and polar research to work on projects about
climate change, hydrology and rapidly diminishing snow and ice in the
northern hemisphere. The successful candidates will join Prof.
Rennermalm?s (http://rci.rutgers.edu/~arennerm
<http://rci.rutgers.edu/~arennerm/Home.html>) and Prof. Robinson's
(http://climate.rutgers.edu/snowcover/) research groups. The Ph.D
program involves professional training and application of a diverse set
of methods, which may include remote sensing, modeling, statistics,
computer programming, geospatial analysis and field methods techniques.
Certificate opportunities that can be combined with the Geography Ph.D
program include the Geospatial Information Science program and a new
Earth, Ocean and Atmosphere Sciences program starting in fall 2015.
Competitive fellowships are available for highly qualified students.

Hi,
We have two positions available at the University of Cambridge in
composition climate modelling.
See:
http://www.jobs.cam.ac.uk/job/5778/
*Research Associate x 2: Modelling composition interactions in the Earth
System (Fixed Term)*
Fixed-term: The funds for these posts are available for 2 years in the
first instance.
Applications are invited for two post-doctoral research associate positions
in the atmospheric chemistry modelling research groups of Prof John Pyle
and Dr Alex Archibald. The focus of our research is how changes in
atmospheric composition affect the Earth System, and vice versa. Our
principal research tool is UM-UKCA, a chemistry-aerosol and climate model
integrated into the Met Office Unified Model. Ongoing projects include
studies of how the stratospheric ozone layer will recover, how changes in
natural and anthropogenic emissions affect tropospheric ozone and
tropospheric oxidation processes, and how these changes interact with
changes in climate.
We are looking for highly motivated physical scientists with a good track
record at problem solving using numerical models. There will be
opportunities to help further develop the UM-UKCA model as well as to
exploit it in a range of scientific investigations. Potential areas where
you could work range from enhancing the computational performance of
UM-UKCA to developing extended functionality to simulate physico-chemical
processes for particular studies. You will be working as part of a large
team of researchers helping to develop and exploit UM-UKCA but you must
have sufficient time management skills to work independently on a
day-to-day basis. Duties include developing and conducting individual and
collaborative research objectives, proposals and projects. The role holder
will be expected to plan and manage their own research and administration,
with guidance if required, and to assist in the preparation of proposals
and applications to external bodies.
Applicants must have (or be about to obtain) a PhD in the physical
sciences; desirable fields of study include atmospheric science, ocean
science, computational mathematics and physics. Experience with the Unified
Model or atmospheric modelling is high desirable, as is experience
interpreting large datasets using software such as Python, R, Matlab or IDL.
The posts are available immediately. Interviews will take place week
beginning 9 February 2015.
To apply online for this vacancy, please click on the 'Apply' button below.
This will route you to the University's Web Recruitment System, where you
will need to register an account (if you have not already) and log in
before completing the online application form.
Please ensure that you upload your Curriculum Vitae (CV), a covering letter
and publications list in the Upload section of the online application. If
you upload any additional documents that have not been requested, we will
not be able to consider these as part of your application.
For queries regarding applying online for this post, please contact Alice
Wood (email: aw534@cam.ac.uk).
Please quote reference MA05002 on your application and in any
correspondence about this vacancy.
The Department holds an Athena SWAN bronze award for women in science,
technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine.
The University values diversity and is committed to equality of opportunity.
The University has a responsibility to ensure that all employees are
eligible to live and work in the UK.
