The Institute of Environmental Physics and Remote Sensing at the University
of Bremen is offering a PostDoc position (TVL 13, 39.2 hours per week),
starting as soon as possible for the duration of three years for the
development of the tropospheric NO2 product for Sentinel-4.

The Institute of Environmental Physics at the University of Bremen has been
analysing satellite observations of atmospheric composition for more than 2
decades. One of the methods used is the Differential Optical Absorption
Spectroscopy (DOAS) which enables the detection of a number of stratospheric
and tropospheric trace gases, facilitating the evaluation of their spatial
distributions, sources and sinks, as well as their changes over time.

For the upcoming ESA Sentinel-4, the first European geostationary
atmospheric chemistry satellite, IUP Bremen has the task to develop the
tropospheric NO2 product. This will be based on existing algorithms for
heritage instruments (GOME, SCIAMACHY, OMI) and the Sentinel-5P instrument
to be launched mid-2016. The task of the PostDoc is to adapt the existing
DOAS NO2 algorithms to Sentinel-4 requirements, to perform sensitivity
studies on measurement accuracy and radiative transfer, to produce the
necessary documentation, and to coordinate and represent IUP Bremen
activities for Sentinel-4. This work will be done in close cooperation with
other scientists at IUP and international partners in the project.

Requirements:

. A PhD in Physics or a related discipline
. Experience in UV/vis remote sensing of atmospheric constituents
. Very good knowledge in at least one higher programming language
. Ability to work in both Windows and LINUX environments
. Experience in project work
. Good knowledge in spoken and written German and / or English

The Institute of Environmental Physics offers a friendly working atmosphere
and excellent working environment. The position is integrated into the
international ESA funded Sentinel-4 project.

More information on the institute and the DOAS group can be found at
http://www.iup.physik.uni-bremen.de/eng/ and http://www.doas-bremen.de.

As the University of Bremen intends to increase the proportion of female
employees in science, women are particularly encouraged to apply. In case of
equal personal aptitudes and qualification priority will be given to
disabled persons.

Please direct applications and questions in electronic form until October
29, 2015 to

Dr. Andreas Richter (richter@iup.physik.uni-bremen.de)

Please include standard documentation (CV, references, copies of diplomas,
letter of motivation) and mention our reference A 189/15.
