The Institute for Meteorology invites applications for a research
associate (TV-L 13 FU) in the field of decadal climate
predictions. The position is to be filled as soon as possible
(limited to 30.09.2018) and is part of MiKlip II, the German national
initiative for decadal climate prediction in its second
phase. The successful applicant will develop and apply approaches for
statistical (re-)calibration of decadal climate predictions. Based on a
general framework to be developed, specific calibration approaches are
to be developed in cooperation with associated projects. The
characteristics of these approaches will be investigated with toy
models and based on model hindcasts. Partners in this project are the
Max-Planck-Institute for Meteorology and MeteoSwiss. The position is
located at the Freie Universit?t Berlin.
Requirements:
The successful candidate holds a university degree (Master, Diploma)
in Meteorology, Physics, Applied Mathematics or a related field.
Desirable:
Besides competences in statistical modelling and ensemble forecast
post-processing (calibration, verification), the successful candidate
will benefit from experience with climate modelling, decadal
predictions, as well as UNIX/Linux based computer environments, modern
environments of statistical computing (preferably R) and competences
in handling large climate data (CDO, Python), publication and
presentation of scientific results. Applications should include a
letter of motivation, CV and relevant university certificates.
All applications quoting the reference code: 24034100/2015/Miklip II
