*Applications are invited to MSc/PhD studies in Physical Oceanography.***

The area of interest includes laboratory experiments with
stratified/rotating fluids with applications to the Earth's oceans and
atmosphere as well as atmospheres of Jupiter and Saturn. Students with
strong background in physics and mathematics are especially encouraged
to apply. The successful candidates will be conducting experiments on
the rotating platform using the state of the art Altimetric Image
Velocimetry system. Numerical simulations can be run in parallel
with laboratory experiments using ACEnet multiprocessor machines.

PhD opportunities in Atmospheric Science in Cambridge (UK)

The Cambridge Earth System Science Doctoral Training Programme (funded by NERC) is open for applications, with a closing date of January 6th (note that an earlier date may apply for people also seeking other sources of funding). Supervisors have posted project descriptions, and you are invited to view the ones in the area of atmospheric science at:
http://essdtp.esc.cam.ac.uk/programme/climate-theme

Projects with an atmospheric science theme are available with lead supervisors in a number of departments including Chemistry, Geography, Earth Sciences, and at the British Antarctic Survey.

You can find projects with a particular supervisor or keyword using the searchable list (http://essdtp.esc.cam.ac.uk/programme/projects-list )

Although the NERC funding is only available to UK/EU students (see funding pages to understand the different categories), other sources of funds may be available. Whatever your funding status, if you are interested in a project, you are strongly urged to contact potential supervisors for more information.

The School of Earth Atmosphere and Environment (SEAE) at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, is pleased to welcome applications from talented and ambitious scientists to fill a two-year research fellowship (Level A) in Atmospheric Science. SEAE at Monash has broad interests across the full range of Earth sciences (see http://www.monash.edu/science/schools/earth-atmosphere-environment).

You will undertake research on the horizontal and vertical structure of tropical and extra-tropical convection as part of a project funded by the US Department of Energy. The project will make extensive use of ground-based remote sensing observations from the Atmospheric Radiation Measurement program. A special emphasis will be the use of scanning rain and cloud radar information to elucidate convective behavior including the organisation of convection and its interaction with the large-scale atmosphere. The project is explicitly designed to support the development on new ideas as to how to represent convection in weather and climate models.

You will conduct research of the highest international quality in a team of like-minded individuals. You will publish your results in world-leading journals and present them to your peers at major national and international conferences.

If you feel that you have the skills and experience to make this role a success your application is encouraged.
