The Atmospheric Science and Climate Research department of the Environmental Science Division at Argonne is seeking a postdoctoral appointee to work on an exciting new project aimed at simulating remote sensing observations using output from high resolution atmospheric models. This project bridges fine scale modeling with remote sensing of clouds and precipitation. The primary focus will be on developing forward models to simulate instrument data streams (observations) from model representation of microphysics and dynamics. The candidate will work with our team behind several projects, including the open source Python ARM Radar Toolkit (PyART) to develop new techniques to optimize the deployment of multi-sensor instrument packages such as the ARM Mobile Facility.
The ideal candidate will have PhD in atmospheric sciences or in a related field with expertise in programming and considerable mathematical skills. The candidate is expected to have considerable knowledge in both or either atmospheric radiative transfer including scattering at millimeter wavelengths, or atmospheric high-resolution models and cloud microphysics.
This appointment is expected to last two years with a possibility of extension, contingent on funding.
