The CMCC is taking into consideration the possibility to hire a talented,
motivated and proactive *Junior Research Associate *to work on developments
of ice sheet models, currently in use at CMCC for Earth System modeling.

The location is CMCC – Ocean modeling and Data Assimilation Division in
Bologna, Italy.

The primary purposes for this position is to perform development and
assessment of the ice sheet model embedded in the CMCC Earth System model
and in particular the ocean-ice dynamical interactions.

The desired qualifications are:

- Master degree in Geophysical Sciences, Applied Mathematics, or related
disciplines;
- Knowledge of high-performance computing environment and programming
languages, especially Fortran;
- Knowledge of UNIX/Linux operating systems and scripting languages;
- Knowledge of post-processing/statistical/graphical tools to analyze
large geophysical datasets;
- Fluency in English.

The following experiences will be welcome:

- Experience of parallel programming and debugging on supercomputers
(MPI, OpenMP);
- Good knowledge of the file formats used in Earth system modeling and
their I/O libraries (NetCDF, GRIB, HDF);
- Good knowledge of scientific software (such as Python, NCO, CDO, NCL,
GrADS, MatLab, R, etc.);
- Good communication skills and ability to work in an interdisciplinary
team.

Belonging to legally protected categories (ex L. 68/99) will constitute a
preferential condition.

The initial appointment is for *12 months* starting as soon as possible at
an annual salary ranging *from 22€ to 28 k€**, comprehensive of benefits*,
depending on qualification and experience.

Position Summary:
Berkeley Lab's Climate & Ecosystems Division has an opening for a Climate Interaction Postdoctoral Fellow. This position is for a scientist with expertise in analyzing terrestrial biogeochemical and hydrological processes and their climate interactions, with a focus on Earth System Models (ESMs). The position offers an excellent environment for working with a highly skilled interdisciplinary team. You will also have opportunities to collaborate with researchers across our multi-institution DOE-funded project. We are interested in developing methods to evaluate, against observations, process-level and emergent ESM responses that affect climate, and to standardize the benchmarking approaches for broader community use. Analyzing and quantifying uncertainty in feedbacks between the atmosphere and terrestrial biosphere will be important components of the research.

What You Will Do:
• Develop methods to benchmark land models against a diverse range of observations.
• Work in an integrated team environment.
• Focus on several groups of biogeochemical and climate feedback processes.

What Is Required:
• Recently PhD graduate.
• Understanding and use of state-of-the-art land-surface biogeochemical models.
• Ability to develop representations of complex inter-related terrestrial ecosystem processes suitable for ESMs.
• Ability to develop and use coupled atmosphere and land-surface models to characterize feedbacks.
• Ability to develop methods to benchmark land models against a diverse range of observations.

The Marine forecaster is responsible for providing marine and aviation forecasts for the renewable energy, shipping, oil and gas industries. Additional duties can include but not be limited to training provision, verification and related tasks.

You must be willing and have the ability to work on a shift basis including nights, weekends and public holidays. You will become part of our Aberdeen based UK team of meteorologists and work closely with the global StormGeo forecast centres.

Recent experience of renewable energy, oil and gas marine forecasting, shipping or aviation forecasting will be an advantage. A formal qualification in meteorology and a demonstrable fluency in both written and spoken English as well as EU residency or an EU work permit are essential.
