A postdoctoral or more senior research position in Boundary Layer
Meteorology is available in the Department of Civil and Environmental
Engineering at Princeton University. The prospective researcher will
mainly focus on the influence of baroclinicity, which arises when strong
horizontal temperature gradients are present, on the dynamics of the
atmospheric boundary layer (ABL). Baroclinic ABLs remain poorly
understood despite their importance to atmospheric dynamics near coastal
regions and fronts, and in various other settings. The postdoctoral
research associate
will also address other open questions related to turbulence and
buoyancy in the ABL. The work will rely on a combination of large eddy
simulations and field data analysis; experience with one or both is thus
advantageous. The research will be supervised by Professor Elie Bou-Zeid
(http://efm.princeton.edu/).

Interested candidates are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. The
anticipated start date is February, 2017, but the position will remain
open until filled. Questions about the scope of the work can be
addressed to ebouzeid@princeton.edu, but applications sent by email
CANNOT be considered. Applicants must apply online through the Princeton
University jobs website:
http://jobs.princeton.edu/applicants/Central?quickFind=69258 and submit
a cover letter, CV, a brief (~ 1-2 pages) statement of research
experience and interests, and the names and emails of three references.

This appointment is for one year, and may be renewed pending
satisfactory performance and sufficient funding. This position is
subject to the University's background check policy.

Princeton University is an equal opportunity employer and all qualified
applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to
race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity,
national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any
other characteristic protected by law.

The Paul Scherrer Institute PSI is the largest research centre for natural and engineering sciences within Switzerland. We perform cutting-edge research in the fields of matter and materials, energy and environment and human health. By performing fundamental and applied research, we work on sustainable solutions for major challenges facing society, science and economy. PSI is committed to the training of future generations. Therefore about one quarter of our staff are post-docs, post-graduates or apprentices. Altogether PSI employs 1900 people.

For the Gasphase and Aerosol Chemistry Group within the Atmospheric Chemistry Laboratory we are looking for a
Postdoctoral Fellow
Study of Secondary Organic Aerosols in the lab and in the field using aerosol/VOC mass spectrometry with electron impact and soft ionization
Your tasks

* Responsible for the smog chamber operation for the aging of complex emissions (e.g. coal, wood burning, including mixtures with other precursors) to obtain quantitative information on the secondary organic aerosol formation potential and the gathering of soft ionization reference mass spectra
* Running the aerosol mass spectrometers in the lab and in the field together with two PhD students
* Support of source apportionment of field measurements with a focus on primary and secondary organic aerosols
* Support in guidance of two PhD students

Your profile

* PhD in aerosol or VOC science
* In depth experience with aerosol mass spectrometry and/or chemical ionization mass spectrometry using aerodyne instrumentation
* Experience in smog chamber studies and/or in source apportionment and/or in programming (especially with Igor Pro) is advantageous
* Excellent publications during PhD
* Very good English language skills

We offer
Our institution is based on an interdisciplinary, innovative and dynamic collaboration. You will profit from a systematic training on the job, in addition to personal development possibilities and our pronounced vocational training culture.
