PDRA in advanced technologies for sustainable agriculture
We are looking for an enthusiastic postdoctoral research associate to participate in a major research project, ATEC (Advanced technologies for efficient crop management). Our goal is to enhance sustainable and efficient production for two major and contrasting UK crops, wheat and potatoes. We will couple novel sensing and analytical technologies, to create a tool that predicts and diagnoses crop response to water and nutrient related challenges. You will have responsibility across the three core technologies deployed; sensors, modelling and data assimilation. You will operate an unmanned aerial vehicle (drone) to collect data across experimental trials in eastern Scotland, and over farms across eastern UK, and will collate and process satellite data over the same locations. You will calibrate, and operate the SPAcrop model, and apply data assimilation algorithms to update model states and parameters using sensor data. You will lead author publications related to upscaling yield limitation diagnoses, and support knowledge transfer activities, and will work with the project team to develop a decision support system. The project will require close working with another project PDRA, who will manage the in situ data collection across the experimental sites, and with our partners in SRUC.
