Please distribute widely. Interested candidates may contact me (stefan.sobolowski@uni.no <mailto:stefan.sobolowski@uni.no>) or Asgeir Sorteberg (asgeir.sorteberg@uni.no <mailto:asgeir.sorteberg@uni.no>) for additional information. Many thanks!

There is a vacancy for a researcher position at the Geophysical Institute <http://www.uib.no/en/gfi>, University of Bergen in the intersection of regional climate dynamics, glaciology and hydrology. The position is for a period of 2 years under the project "Investigating the future evolution of Norwegian glaciers and hydrological impacts: an integrated modelling approach (EVOGLAC)" funded by the Research Council of Norway.

About the project/work tasks
EVOGLAC is a major interdisciplinary effort to establish a fully coupled atmosphere-glacier-hydrological modelling system, which will allow researchers and decision-makers to gain deeper understanding the future evolution of glaciers and glaciated watersheds. The researcher will be responsible for performing high resolution modelling simulations and a component-wise (atmosphere-glacier-hydrology) evaluation and validation of the modelling systems for a well-observed glacier in Norway. The researcher will further perform sensitivity experiments to investigate the sensitivity of the atmosphere-glacier-hydrological environment to changes in climate.

The application deadline is Jan. 31; start date is flexible but cannot be later than Sep. 2017. For more details about the position, instructions on how to submit an application, and contact information, please see: https://www.jobbnorge.no/en/available-jobs/job/131351/researcher-position-in-regional-climate-modelling-at-the-geophysical-institute-university-of-bergen <https://www.jobbnorge.no/en/available-jobs/job/131351/researcher-position-in-regional-climate-modelling-at-the-geophysical-institute-university-of-bergen>

*(Geo)Science Communication School (*http://www.
sciencecommunicationschool.org
<http://www.sciencecommunicationschool.org/videos/>*)*
Castiglione del Lago, Italy, 27 March 2017 - 1 April 2017

EGU GRANTS AVAILABLE!

The school is the result of a collaboration between researchers from the
International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP <http://www.ictp.it/>),
the Institute of Atmospheric Sciences and Climate (ISAC) and the Department
of Media, Cognition and Communication of the University of Copenhagen
<http://mcc.ku.dk/>. Local organization is provided by island of meetings (
iom <http://www.islandofmeetings.com/>) and the school
is supported by the Marie Curie Alumni Association (MCAA
<https://www.mariecuriealumni.eu/>), by the European Geosciences Union (EGU
<http://www.egu.eu/>), by the Agenzia Spaziale Italiana (ASI
<http://www.asi.it/>) and by the AXA Research Fund.

Attending the school students will learn how to effectively convey
important research results to a public of both experts and laypeople.

Students will learn how:
- *to write scientific papers, *
*- to structure poster and talks for conference presentation, *
*- to write proposals at international level,*
*- to communicate science to general public, students, and policymakers*,
*- to communicate through art and laboratories*
*- to communicate through social networks and internet*

Also students will receive coaching from experienced researchers (Marie
Curie Alumni) and Euraxess experts on proposal and report drafting.

Being involved in science communication activities will allow the students
to gain communication technical skills that will be useful in their wider
lives and will remind the students that science is an heritage that needs
to be shared as a part of our culture.

The school has the aim of offering overview and training of scientific
communication skills in all its forms. The school will treat communication
not only with an "educative aim" but also with a "scientific aim". The
lecturers will therefore not only present an overview of science
communication from a theoretical point of view, but also will offer
practical activities on abstract/paper writing and poster editing, on
proposal and report drafting, and on how to improve communication to
policymakers. All the lectures will be accompanied by laboratories and
students will experience concrete activities: for example *each student
will present a poster at the beginning of the school and posters will be
corrected and improved at the end applying what learned during the school*;
at the end of the school students will try to provide accurate but concise
information about their science to the general public *without using any
powerpoint presentation and without using any pc *as it was done during the
first edition (http://www.sciencecommunicationschool.org/videos/).
