YALE UNIVERSITY: A Postdoctoral Position in Ocean, Atmosphere and
Climate Dynamics
A new postdoctoral positions in Ocean, Atmosphere and Climate Dynamics
is available at Yale University, Department of Geology and Geophysics (http://earth.geology.yale.edu/~avf5
). Particular fields of research include ocean circulation, ocean-
atmosphere interactions, the role of ocean in climate, climate
variability, paleoclimate. Examples of current research projects: El
Ni?o in past and future climates, stability of the Atlantic meridional
overturning circulation, abrupt climate change, modeling of decadal
climate variability. The work will involve a combination of numerical
modeling, analyses of observational, proxy and GCM data, and
analytical approaches. A PhD in physical oceanography, atmospheric
sciences or related disciplines is required. Experience with oceanic
or atmospheric general circulation models (GCM) is required. Funding
is currently available for two years but can be extended in future.

Director, Midwestern Regional Climate Center
The Illinois State Water Survey, Division of the Prairie Research
Institute at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is seeking
the next Director of the Midwestern Regional Climate Center (MRCC).
The Director of the MRCC is a state-funded position. The MRCC is one of
six Regional Climate Centers (RCC) in the US funded for more than 20
years by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The RCC
program is a leader in the provision of climate services in the nation.
The Director leads a team of skilled climatologists and support staff in
applied research and services on the climate of the Midwest. This
research seeks to improve the monitoring and understanding of climate
processes, their impact on agriculture, water resources, and other
climate sectors in the Midwest, and guides the delivery of climate
services. The Director also coordinates and collaborates with the other
Regional Climate Centers, encourages collaborative research and outreach
activities with State Climatologists in the region, and works with the
NCDC, the NWS and other climate partners and federal agencies in the
development of a cohesive climate services program in the U.S. It is
expected that the successful candidate for this position will seek to
expand the existing climate research and service/outreach programs of
the MRCC and the Illinois State Water Survey through external funding.
Required Education and Experience A Ph.D. is required in atmospheric
science, geography or other appropriate disipline, and a minimum of 4
years of relevant experience in applied climate research and/or climate
services. The preferred qualifications of the successful candidate
include a record of research in applied climate science supported by
external funds they obtained, experience in climate services, excellent
leadership skills, and administrative experience.
Proposed start date: is as soon as possible after the closing date.
Salary: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Opportunity for a Postdoctoral Scientist at Pacific Northwest National
Laboratory
Job Description
The Atmospheric Sciences and Global Change Division at Pacific Northwest
National Laboratory (PNNL) seeks a postdoctoral scientist to work on
mesoscale and climate modeling. The position is for 2 years. The
selected candidate will work with a modeling team to improve
representations of aerosol-cloud interactions in large-scale models.
He/She will also design and perform numerical experiments using the
improved models to elucidate aerosol effects on the hydrological cycle.
Requirements/Qualifications
A Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science or related subjects is required.
Candidates with experience in cloud parameterizations and regional
climate models (especially WRF) as well as familiarity with high
performance computing is preferred. Strong written and oral
communications skills are required. Interested candidates should send
