Mount Washington Observatory (MWO) and Plymouth State University?s (PSU) Judd Gregg Meteorology Institute (JGMI) invite applications for a shared position as Director of Research at MWO and a Research Assistant Professor at PSU. This is a full-time, non-tenure track appointment.

We seek to appoint an outstanding researcher to develop
statistical/mathematical modelling
of storm-related risk relevant to the insurance sector. This fellowship
is available from
1 November 2011 on a 3-year fixed term basis
This fellowship affords an excellent opportunity to join the dynamic
world-renowned
Exeter Climate System's research team (www.exeter.ac.uk/xcs) and to
develop an academic career
at the interface of mathematical and climate science that has real
impact for the
global insurance sector.
The fellow will undertake statistical research on the collective
risk of tropical and extra-tropical cyclones in close collaboration with
Professor David Stephenson and other members of XCS.
The fellow is expected to collaborate strongly with Willis in the City
of London and with other academic partners
in the Willis Research Network (WRN) such as the nearby Met Office. WRN
is the world's
largest partnership between academia and the insurance industry, which
provides a
unique open forum for the advancement of the science of societal-relevant
natural catastrophes (www.willisresearchnetwork.com).
