Qualifications: Doctoral degree.
The ideal candidate will have experience in educational research, with a strong background in physics, astronomy, meteorology, or climate science. In addition, pre-college teaching experience and knowledge of teacher preparation is strongly preferred. We seek candidates familiar with a variety of teaching techniques, emerging technologies for instruction, and cross-cultural teaching. Applicants should have awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience.
Responsibilities: Fifty (50) percent of this assignment will be in the Science Education program and will concentrate on the preparation of secondary school science teachers. Fifty (50) percent of this assignment will be in Physics/Astronomy or Meteorology/Climate Science and will vary depending on the department and its needs. Science Education teaching assignments may include Secondary Science Methods and/or Colloquium, Student Teacher Supervision, graduate level courses, and/or service courses. The successful applicant will participate in committees and advising for both the home department (Physics/Astronomy or Meteorology/Climate Science) and the Science Education Program. This person will serve as the department liaison with the single subject science credential program, and his or her assignments may include the undergraduate advising of department students who intend to become teachers, and oversight of teacher preparation bachelors programs in appropriate disciplines. The successful candidate will teach courses at BS/BA and MS level courses (Physics/Astronomy or Meteorology/Climate Science), engage in Physics/Astronomy education research or Climate Science education research, and is expected to successfully obtain external grant funding for his or her research program. The successful candidate must address the needs of a student population of great diversity ? in age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language and academic preparation ? through course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.
Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Starting Date: August 20, 2012
