NCAR will host a summer colloquium on "Subseasonal variability and its
impact at the weather-climate intersection" from 4-22 June 2012.
Colloquium convenors are Mitch Moncrieff, George Kiladis, and myself.
The colloquium is target at graduate students who have completed at
least two years of doctoral-level study in the atmospheric sciences and
related disciplines. A week-long researcher colloquium (11-15 June) will
be a part of the overall colloquium.

Starting salaries at the appropriate grade are:
Associate Research Fellow on Grade E from ?24,370 per annum
Research Fellow on Grade F at ?31,798 per annum
This new full-time post is available from 1st February 2012 on a fixed term basis for up to 36 months.
The College wishes to recruit a Researcher to participate in the newly funded project, South Asian Precipitation ? a Seamless Assessment (SAPRISE). The successful applicant will conduct independent research into drivers of variations in the South Asian monsoon and associated precipitation in collaboration with Prof Mat Collins. The research will involve the use of output from numerical climate models and observations. Some further running of climate model experiments may be required. The post-holder will be expected to produce publications in international journals, give presentations at international meetings and to play an active role in the scientific life of the Exeter Climate Systems group. Some travel to India will be expected.
In addition, the post-holder will be expected to contribute to the management of SAPRISE in conjunction with Profs Mat Collins and Krishna AchutaRao (IIT Delhi) who lead the project. For candidates with relatively little post-doctoral experience (grade E), management activities will include; the development of a web/wiki site, contribution to the organisation of meetings, contribution to the preparation of progress reports etc. For more experienced candidates, leadership of such activities will be expected as will the leadership of the synthesis Work Package of the project.
The SAPRISE project brings together scientists from the University of Exeter, the UK Met Office and the University of Reading, and counterparts in India from IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IITM Pune, IMD Delhi, the National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF) and the Indian Centre for Climate and Societal Impacts Research in Gujarat.
The successful candidate will be appointed at Associate Research Fellow (Grade E) or Research Fellow (Grade F) depending on the skills and experience the individual can bring to the role. Candidates should demonstrate their achievement against the relevant criteria in the accompanying person specifications which will be used to make an appointment at an appropriate level.
