*Ph. D. fellowship position *
*at the G.C. Rieber Climate Institute of Nansen Environmental and Remote
Sensing Center, Bergen, Norway*
*/Bergen Air Quality under Present Climate and Future Climate Scenarios/*
A three year Ph. D. fellowship position (2012 -- 2015) is open at the
G.C. Rieber Climate Institute with focus on understanding, simulation
and projection of urban air quality and climate in Bergen. The work is
aimed to set-up, to calibrate and to run the turbulence-resolving model
PALM. It necessarily includes intensive communications with data
providers (Bergen municipality, Road authorities, Meteorological
Institute, Health authorities and Geophysical Institute) and essential
contribution to the PALM development and data processing. The study
should result in a novel, model-based approach to the urban air quality
assessment, warning of air quality hazards and scenarios of future air
quality in Bergen.
The qualified candidate should demonstrate:
?Familiarity with numerical modelling in geo-sciences and/or fluid dynamics
?High level of computer programming skills for parallel computations
?Experience with statistical analysis
?Good skills in public relations and written communication
The Nansen Environmental and Remote Sensing Center (http://www.nersc.no)
is an independent research foundation located in Bergen, Norway and
affiliated with the University of Bergen. The centre currently employs
about 60 persons from 14 nations. The Nansen centre is a part of the
Nansen Group of research centres, the Bjerknes Centre for Climate
Research (BCCR) a Norwegian Centre of Excellence and the Norwegian
Centre for Climate Dynamics.
The applications must be sent to Dr. Igor Esau by e-mail: igor.ezau@nersc.no
