Postdoctoral Researcher in MJO-related Atmospheric Composition Variability
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral scholar in atmospheric composition variability related to the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) at the Joint Institute for Regional Earth System Science and Engineering at the University of California, Los Angeles (JIFRESSE-UCLA). The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary team from JIFRESSE-UCLA, NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), California Institute of Technology (Caltech), and NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GFSC) to study the MJO-related ozone and aerosol variability using satellite/in-situ data and chemical transport models. Thesuccessful candidate will primarily work with Dr. Baijun Tian at JIFRESSE-UCLA and JPL, but will have the extensive opportunity to collaborate with scientists at all participating institutions.
Candidates should have a recent Ph.D. in atmospheric sciences or a related field with a strong background in atmospheric remote sensing and satellite data analysis. Experience in satellite aerosol products (e.g., MODIS, MISR, CALIPSO), or satellite O3 and CO products (e.g., AIRS, MOPITT, MLS, TES), and chemical transport models (e.g., GOCART, GOES-Chem, MOZART) is desirable. Expertise in IDL, FORTRAN, and UNIX/LINUX shell script is also desirable.
The position is available immediately and will remain open until filled. The position is for one year, renewable for another year depending on satisfactory progress and availability of fund.
Interested applicants should send a letter describing your research interests, a curriculum vitae, and the names and contact information of three references to Dr. Baijun Tian (Baijun.Tian@jpl.nasa.gov).
