Job opportunity at Cornell University
Director - Institute for Climate Change and Agriculture
Senior Extension Associate
College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS)
Cornell University
Summary The Director of the Institute for Climate Change and Agriculture
at Cornell University will provide critically important leadership that
will help to facilitate, coordinate and enhance climate change research
and outreach related to agriculture in the College of Agriculture and
Life Sciences (CALS). With climate change impacts already occurring and
expected to intensify in coming years the Institute will play an
increasing role in leading/facilitating initiatives related to the
impacts of climate change on agriculture, development and delivery of
decision-making tools for producers, collaborations among research,
extension and stakeholder communities, and communication and outreach.
Cornell?s capacity to contribute to the challenges and opportunities
posed to agriculture by climate change is extensive and includes
programs in plant breeding, biological and environmental engineering,
animal science, horticulture, soil science, pest management,
communication, economics, and earth and atmospheric sciences. The
Institute for Climate Change and Agriculture will raise the profile of
Cornell?s contributions and thereby become a point of contact for
current information of crucial importance to the agricultural community
and related stakeholders. As such, the Institute will also position
Cornell for additional funding in support of research and outreach. The
Director, with support and guidance from the Institute?s advisory
committee, will prioritize and manage a multitude of opportunities and
challenges available to the Institute. This position requires a high
degree of critical thinking skills, a proven track record of forming
successful relationships with government agencies, NGO?s, stakeholders
groups, members of the agricultural community, and credibility with
faculty to support and/or manage projects central to the core mission.
Qualifications M.S., (Ph.D. preferred) in agriculture, natural/social
sciences, atmospheric sciences or related field with experience in
multidisciplinary programs, as well as leadership/facilitation skills
applicable to an academic setting. Broad knowledge of agriculture and
climate change issues and a demonstrated ability to effectively interact
and communicate with academics, extension personnel, and government
entities is required. An ability to synthesize and translate research
results, excellent meeting facilitation and writing skills and the
ability to lead and/or collaborate on funding initiatives to public and
private entities will be critical. Collaborations will include those
within Cornell as well as across institutions to facilitate
multi-institution funding opportunities. The Director must be able to
work independently and have strong interpersonal skills and utilize a
team-oriented approach. Successful candidate must be able to demonstrate
leadership skills and function in a managerial capacity.
To apply: Send letter of application and CV/resume as a single PDF to
Bonnie Ferguson at <CUAESinfo@cornell.edu>. Applications will be
reviewed as received, continuing until a suitable applicant is identified.
