The NOAA Air Resources Laboratory invites applications for a post-doctoral
researcher to participate in an atmospheric chemistry modeling study
centered on analysis of data from the 2013 Southeast Atmosphere Study
(SAS). The project will focus on improving the representation of model
processes affecting biogenic VOC chemistry under a range of environmental
and chemical conditions. Applicants should have experience using 3-D
atmospheric chemistry models (CMAQ preferred) and be familiar with biogenic
VOC emissions models and chemical processes. The position will be for 1
year with the possibility of extension depending upon performance and
acquisition of additional funding. The position can be located in either
College Park, MD, or Oak Ridge, TN.
Interested applicants should send a CV, a cover letter describing the
applicant?s experience and research interests, and contact information for
three references to Dr. Rick Saylor (rick.saylor@noaa.gov).
Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the
position is filled.

Research Fellow in Volcanic Ash Modelling and Data Assimilation
Full time, fixed term for 24 months to commence as soon as possible
University Grade 7 (?30,424-36,298 per annum)
The project contributes to the work of NERC's National Centre for Atmospheric Science (NCAS) in supporting the national response to volcanic ash hazards. NCAS is one of NERC's six research centres, with responsibility of providing national capability and coordinating strategic research on behalf of the UK atmospheric science research community.
You will contribute to the modelling effort at NCAS Leeds which is developing a plume dispersal model utilising the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model. Your work will make use of data from a range of both ground and airborne instruments operated by NCAS and the opportunity will arise to be involved in these observational activities.
You will have a PhD in mathematics, meteorology, physics or chemistry (or related field) with significant experience in both the analysis of atmospheric measurement data and its use and assimilation into models. You will also have the ability to work proactively, taking the initiative to drive the project forward and will have good communication and interpersonal skills.
You will be based within NCAS at the University of Leeds but the work will involve collaboration with both the UK and Icelandic Meteorological Offices in addition to other academic parties.
