*PhD position on Aerosol-Cloud-Radiation Interactions over the Arctic at
UQAM*
A fully-funded PhD studentship is available in the Department of Earth and
Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Quebec at Montreal under the
supervision of Prof. Eric Girard. This project aims to investigate indirect
radiative effects of aerosols related to ice nucleation in cold clouds over
the Arctic. This project involves collaboration with atmospheric chemists
and field scientists to develop new ice nucleation parameterizations based
on laboratory studies and to use in-situ observations for model validation.
This Ph.D. position is within the framework of NETCARE (*NET*work on *C*limate
and *A*erosols: Addressing Key Uncertainties in *R*emote Canadian
*E*nvironments)
funded by NSERC. NETCARE is comprised of the leading scientists in the
Canadian climate-aerosol community. The central impetus within the network
is that the key uncertainties in this complex field must be addressed by
multidisciplinary studies of interacting components of the Earth system,
particularly the ocean, atmosphere, and cryosphere. NETCARE involves
laboratory studies, in-situ measurements and modeling.
Successful applicant will have an MSc in Atmospheric Sciences or related
disciplines. Good programming skills in Fortran, C/C++, Matlab or R,
familiarity with UNIX environment and shell scripting and excellent written
and oral communication skills in French and English will be definite
assets.
Interested applicants should submit a cover letter, CV, academic
transcripts and contact details of three referees to Eric Girard *(
girard.eric@uqam.ca)* by November 22, 2013. Information about the PhD
program at UQAM can be obtained from

institution that manages and promotes scientific and applied activities
in the field of international climate change research -- www.cmcc.it
<http://www.cmcc.it>) aim to recruiting motivated and talented
researchers to cover one open position on climate change and sustainable
development economics.
The selected applicant will join the FEEM Research Programme on Climate
Change and Sustainable Development (CCSD), or the CMCC Research Division
on Climate Impacts and Policy (CIP). These research branches carry out
high level research on climate change economics, climate change
integrated assessment modelling, climate change policy and governance,
climate-related innovation and technological change, natural hazards and
extreme climate-related events, management of natural resources,
sustainability and growth beyond GDP.

decision-making processes related to global climate change policies.
His/Her main task will be to connect numerical integrated assessment
models of climate change with the political economy literature on the
role of institutions and interest groups.
FEEM and CMCC offer a truly interdisciplinary workplace and have strong
