NPL is looking to recruit talented Masters or PhD graduate scientists to join our world-leading Optical Radiation Measurement Group.
Key duties
The job will involve experimental scientific research and development in the area of defining the quality of Earth observation (EO) data, cal/val instrumentation, measurements and methodologies for climate applications. This exciting role will provide the opportunity to work with other international research groups, attend and present at international conferences and lead and contribute to peer-reviewed publications in a range of sectors related to EO and remote sensing applications. It is also possible that the candidate will be required to work in an external environment on field-trials, which may require deployment of sensors on land and/or at sea.
Key skills and experience required
NPL is looking for candidates who have a passion for experimental research and can demonstrate ingenuity, innovation, drive and creativity. Candidates should have as a minimum, a degree in a relevant technical subject (e.g. Physics, Engineering, Mathematics, Geography or Environmental Sciences) and experience in experimental research.
The ideal candidate will have experience in Earth observation or remote sensing based activities. Programming skills are desirable. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. The successful candidate will be encouraged to pursue continual professional development, further academic qualifications, membership of professional bodies (which will be subsidised), and they will receive extensive on-the-job training and support.
