a 15 months researcher position in biogeochemistry with focus on
evaluation of model data is available at the Geophysical Institute.
Though this is a modelling related position it could also be of interest
for scientists working more

C++ Algorithms Software Engineer based at EUMETSAT, Darmstadt, Germany

We are currently seeking a University degree (or equivalent) in a relevant
discipline, such as remote sensing, physics, aerospace engineering or
computer science/software engineering.



Location: Darmstadt, Germany

Start Date: ASAP

Closing date: 7 February 2014



TASKS:



The main task of the Candidate will be the maintenance and further
development of the operational MSG Image Processing Facility (IMPF)
software, in particular, the algorithm and data processing aspects of the
IMPF software. In addition, the Candidate may also support development
activities of the MTG and EPS-SG Programmes. Primarily these development
activities will focus on the Image Navigation and Registration processing,
which is part of the mission instrument data processing. Both on-line and
off-line functions development are part of these activities. Typically, the
tasks of the Candidate will include:



MSG Operations Support:

* Developing an expert knowledge of the MSG Image Processing System.
* Investigating anomalies in the MSG Image Processing System.
* Specifying modifications to the MSG Image Processing System.
* Implementing modifications to the MSG Image Processing System.
* Verifying and validating modifications to the MSG Image Processing
System.
* Updating the design and user documentation for the MSG Image
Processing System.

MTG Development Support:

* Reviewing, analysing and anomaly investigation of MTG instrument
data processing software from procurements.
* Supporting the integration, verification and validation of MTG
instrument data processing deliveries.
* Supporting the development of a MTG reference processor at EUMETSAT.
* Prototyping selected instrument data processing algorithms.

EPS-SG Development Support:

* Reviewing, analysing and anomaly investigation of EPS-SG instrument
data processing software from procurements.
* Supporting the integration, verification and validation of EPS-SG
instrument data processing deliveries.
* Prototyping selected instrument data processing algorithms.





Qualifications and Experience



* a University degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline, such
as remote sensing, physics, aerospace engineering or computer
science/software engineering;
* A minimum of five years' experience of C++





Essential Skills



* Object-oriented system design.
* UNIX.
* Implementation of numerical algorithms.





Desirable Skills



* Real-time image processing of large volumes of data.
* Geometric correction / navigation / registration of satellite
images.
* Radiometric correction / calibration of satellite images.
* Performance optimisation of algorithms.
* IDL or MATLAB.
* Integration, verification, and validation of real-time data
processing systems.
* Familiarity with ECSS standards, in particular those related to
software development.
