The University of East Anglia invites applicants to our one-year Climate
Change MSc programme.
The MSc in Climate Change is based in the Climatic Research Unit (CRU)
at the School of Environmental Sciences (ENV). It is a successful and
long-running programme, with nearly 20 years' of graduates who have used
their MSc qualification to progress into an exciting range of careers
spanning areas as diverse as government agencies, business
consultancies, insurance and meteorological services, and academia.
The curriculum is designed to provide you with in-depth
interdisciplinary knowledge of climate change science, society and
policy. With a combination of compulsory and optional modules, the MSc
programme is flexible and allows you to focus your learning on specific
areas of interest, which can be developed into a dissertation project.
The MSc is aimed at graduates with a variety of backgrounds, from the
natural sciences through to the social sciences. Teaching is provided by
scientists from the School of Environmental Sciences, whose research and
teaching are internationally recognised, including members of the
Climatic Research Unit and the Tyndall Centre.

The Potsdam-Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) is looking for
2 Post-Doctoral researchers
within Research Domain 2 (Climate Impacts and Vulnerabilities).
Both researchers will work in the cross-sectoral coordination team of
the Inter-Sectoral Impact Model Intercomparison Project (ISI-MIP). The
PIK was founded in 1992 and is an internationally renowned research
institution in the areas of climate change, climate policy and climate
economics. We offer two full-time positions from 15 April, 2014 to 31
December, 2015 - subject to the availability of the project funding; a
two year extension is foreseen but currently not ensured. Salary and
benefits are according to public service regulations in Germany (E13
TV-L). The position is linked to the ISI-MIP project, which aims to
provide a framework to collate a consistent set of climate impact data
across sectors (e.g. water, natural vegetation, agriculture) and
different scales. This work is financed through the Federal Ministry of
Education and Research (BMBF). A successful applicant will work on the
coordination of the project (e.g. inclusion of new sectors) and the
following scientific focus topics:
? Development of simplified impact functions linking biophysical impacts
to different levels of global warming and atmospheric CO2 concentrations
? Cross-sectoral integration of different impact sectors
? Cross-scale intercomparison as a tool for global model improvement
? Impact model validation, evaluation of validation experiment based on
historical data
? Integration of cross-sectoral impacts in economic models, e.g. by the
development of damage functions
You will join a highly motivated team of researchers in the ISI-MIP
group (<www.isi-mip.org>) at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact
Research e.V. (,www.pik-potsdam.de>). Suitable candidates should hold a
PhD in mathematics, physics, economics, hydrology, ecology or other
impact related disciplines. The position requires good programming
skills, as well as having a keen interest in transdisciplinary research.
Interested candidates should send a CV, a half-page statement of
research interests, copies of high-school and academic certificates and
the names of two referees. Applications should arrive before 31.03.2014.

Title: Online modeling of mineral dust emissions and transport with the
WRF-CHIMERE system
NUMTECH jointly with LMD offer a 2 yr position to work on modeling of
dust coupling the Chimere model with WRF by OASIS-MCT. The position is
funded through a research project (DRUMS) funded by a French national
agency (ANR). The location of the position will be mainly at LMD (?cole
polytechnique - palaiseau).
