Post-doctoral fellowship at CNRM (CNRM-GAME, UMR 3589 - METEO-FRANCE, CNRS)
Applications are invited for a 22-month postdoctoral position starting as soon as possible in 2014, in the climate department of the CNRM-GAME in Toulouse (France) to work on the following subject: "Modelling and evaluation of simulations and reanalyses of continental surfaces?. The deadline for application is May 31th 2014.
Framework:
This position is funded by the European Commission through the Earth2Observe FP7 project. The ultimate objective of this project is to improve the knowledge on the past state of continental surfaces through the reanalysis of land observations with land surface numerical models. In EartH2Observe, Meteo-France intends to build and validate a global land data assimilation system coupled with a hydrological model and to contribute to the validation of land surface models and Earth Observations products.
Work description:
The proposed work will mainly consist in the following tasks :
1) Contribute to the evaluation and intercomparison of the simulation and analysis of snow conditions produced by the different partners of EartH2Observe (design of the intercomparison method, processing of snow observations, evaluation of model ouputs;
2) Perform global simulations with SURFEX-TRIP, the land surface model of the CNRM, and contribute to the evaluations of the results against in-situ river discharges, global snow cover, carbon and vegetation products, and terrestrial water storage variations estimates by GRACE.
3) Analyse performances of new physics or modules in the SURFEX-TRIP system.
Required qualifications:
1) A Ph.D. in atmospheric sciences, preferentially in the modelling of land surface conditions at global or regional scales.
2) A practice in basic statistical methods.
3) An experience in the linux operating system, in the netcdf file format, and Fortran90.
4) A good practice in French and/or English languages.
Practical information:
The successful applicant will be contracted by M?t?o-France and will be based at the ?Centre National de Recherches M?t?orologiques? (Toulouse, France; http://www.cnrm.meteo.fr/) within the climate research group. The opened position will start as soon as possible in 2014 for a 22-month duration. The net salary will be between 2600 to 3100 euros per month, depending on the qualifications of the candidate.
For full consideration, an application letter including a detailed statement of research interest, along with a curriculum vitae (including research experience, publications and conferences, computing skill and different language practises) and the names, telephone and email address of 2 referees should be sent by email before May 31st 2014 to:
Eric.Brun@meteo.fr

Flint Postdoctoral Fellowship
The Department of Geology and Geophysics at Yale University (earth.yale.edu<http://www.earth.yale.edu/>) announces the 2014 competition for the Richard Foster Flint Postdoctoral Fellowship. We welcome applicants with research interests in climatic processes as well as Cenozoic climatic history. Specific research areas include, but are not limited to, glaciology; climatology; atmospheric and oceanic circulations; low-temperature geochemistry; coupling between tectonics, climate and surface processes; and the biologic record of climate change. The Postdoctoral Associate position is awarded for two years, providing a stipend ($50,000/yr) and base research funds ($5,000/yr), plus health care benefits and limited expenses for relocation.Applicants should contact a faculty sponsor in the Department to identify potential research projects, and then submit a short (2-3 page) statement of research interests and proposed research, a curriculum vitae, and list of publications. Applicants should also arrange for four reference letters, three external and one endorsement letter from the Yale faculty sponsor. Applications received by June 15, 2014 will be given full consideration, and decisions will be announced by July 15, 2014. Successful candidates are expected to begin their program at Yale between September 1, 2014 to January 30, 2015.
