Postdoctoral Position in Atmospheric Sciences, Columbia University and
NASA-GISS
The Earth Institute of Columbia University and the NASA Goddard Institute
for Space Studies (GISS) are seeking a post-doctoral researcher with
interest in boundary layer and climate modeling to implement a unified
parameterization of the boundary layer andconvection in the GISS ModelE2
general circulation model. The first part of the project will consist in
implementing a probabilistic unified scheme of dry, shallow and deep
convection into the ModelE2 in single column mode. A new statistical cold
pool scheme will then be tested with large-eddy simulation data. The
project will be advised by PI Pierre Gentine with collaborators Andrew
Ackerman and Ann Fridlind.
The position is available immediately. Terms of appointment are for one
(1) year, renewable for up to three years, subject to approval.
Please submit a CV, list of publications, list of 3 recommenders and
research statement to Pierre Gentine pg2328@columbia.edu
Columbia University benefits afforded with this Officer of Research
position.
Columbia University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in atmospheric sciences or in a related field
and an interest in working with observational data. Prior experience with
single column model(s) or general circulation model(s) is a plus.
Candidates should have good oral and written communication skills. A
record of publishing journal papers and conference presentations is
preferred.

Vulnerability, Adaptation & Governance
A Postdoctoral Research Fellowship (PDRF) in Climate Change
Vulnerability, Adaptation and Governance has been established as part of
the ASSAR (Adaptation at Scale in Semi-Arid Regions) project, and will
undertake advanced research on vulnerability and adaptation in Semi-arid
areas of Southern Africa. The research will have a strong focus on
livelihoods, well-being and governance within an adaptation context, and
will be part of a multi-disciplinary research group at UCT?s the African
Climate and Development Initiative (ACDI), interacting with research
teams from Southern Africa, West Africa, East Africa and India.

VACANCY: Two Fellowships in Climate Change Projections and Scenarios
Two Postdoctoral Research Fellowships (PDRF) in Climate Change
Projections and Scenarios have been established at the University of
Cape Town.
The first PDR Fellow will be part of the ASSAR (Adaptation at Scale in
Semi-Arid Regions) project, undertaking advanced research related to the
use of climate data from multiple sources to inform adaptation in
semi-arid areas. This PDR Fellow will be part of the multi-disciplinary
research group at UCT?s Climate System Analysis Group (CSAG) and the
African Climate and Development Initiative (ACDI), working at the
interface of physical climate modelling, impacts and adaptation.
The second PDR Fellow will be part of CSAG?s activities in the SASSCAL
(Southern Africa Science Service Centre for Climate Change and Adaptive
Land-use) program. The research will focus on the analysis of
multi-model multi-method climate data from global models, and
downscaling for the development of robust regional climate change
information for Africa, complementing a range of related activities in CSAG.
