Chemistry while research topics deal with analysis and modeling of
environmental data and with remote sensing.
The initial duration of the grants is 13 months, which could be extended up
to 4 years
The research activity carried out might be part of a PhD program to be
arranged at nearby University of Naples
Net monthly wage is about 1500 ? (might be higher for non-residents)

Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Physical Chemistry (Aerosol Science)
Grade 7: ?29,541 ? ?36,298 pa
Fixed term for 12 months
Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant within
the Sub-department of Atmospheric, Oceanic and Planetary Physics (AOPP)
to work in the Earth Observation Data Group on the analysis of
laboratory measurements of aerosols.
The post is initially for a fixed-term duration of 12 months and is
available immediately.
The post concerns the estimation of aerosol refractive indices from
existing laboratory measurements of transmission spectra and particle
size distributions. Aerosols to be analysed include black carbon, TiO2
and candidate particles for stratospheric geoengineering.
Much of the successful applicant?s work will involve data analysis and
writing journal articles that: describe the results including their
uncertainty; interpreting the refractive indices in terms of the
physical and chemical properties of the aerosol; and, relating the
results to aerosol radiative effects on the Earth?s atmosphere.
Applicants should possess or be very close to obtaining a doctorate in
physics, physical chemistry or a related field and experience in data
analysis. It will be an advantage to have experience in atmospheric
radiative transfer and/or Fourier transform spectroscopy. Good writing
and computational skills are essential with experience in UNIX/Linux,
IDL and FORTRAN an advantage. The post-holder will have the opportunity
to teach.

statement of research interests, covering letter (maximum 1-2 pages) and
CV. Only applications received before midday 28th April 2014 can be
considered.
Please direct informal enquiries about the role to Dr Don Grainger
(r.grainger@physics.ox.ac.uk).
