HPC Systems Engineers

* Based in Wellington, New Zealand

* Permanent, full-time
NIWA is a leading environmental research institute and key provider of atmospheric, freshwater and marine research and consultancy services in New Zealand.
A key component of NIWA's research infrastructure is the High Performance Computing Facility (HPCF) (http://www.niwa.co.nz/our-services/hpcf), which is used to support research activities in climate, chemistry climate, weather, river flood, sea state, ocean, sea-level, and inundation modelling and forecasting, as well as an operational environmental forecasting system (EcoConnect). The system is also used to meet the High Performance Computing (HPC) requirements of researchers within the wider national community via New Zealand's National eScience Infrastructure (https://www.nesi.org.nz/).
We are seeking two Systems Engineers for our HPCF Operations Group who are capable of both managing a large High Performance Computer, and providing support to operational and science users on the systems. In this role you will be expected to work on a potentially wide range of technical tasks within project teams that include staff from the other NeSI sites at the University of Auckland and Canterbury University. It also offers the opportunity to be involved in the full procurement process for a replacement system.
Candidates will have a tertiary qualification in computer science and/or other sciences or equivalent work experience, with at least five years' experience in the design, implementation and operation of Linux and/or Unix HPC services. Familiarity with AIX, GPFS, xCAT, and TSM, would be advantageous, as would experience with data management and system integration services.
The positions require candidates with strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work in a team environment, who are well-organized and solution-oriented.
NIWA offers competitive remuneration and benefits, an attractive waterfront location with free parking and the opportunity to work in a collaborative and professional group.
A job description, online applications and further information about NIWA can be found at https://careers.sciencenewzealand.org/niwa/niwa-jobs

Applications close on Monday 21 July 2014.
