A Post doctoral position in the field of atmospheric chemistry; defining unknown reactivity in the ambient air of the Boreal and Arctic environments

The Air Quality group at the Finnish Meteorological Institute in Helsinki is opening a Post Doc position in the field of atmospheric chemistry with the focus on experimental work.
In the project we will study reactivity of the atmosphere and reactive compounds, which affect for example on formation of new particles. More specific aim is to study seasonality of the OH reactivity and find new compounds affecting the reactivity in the boreal forest and Arctic air. For measuring OH reactivity, measurement system based on comparative reactivity method will be constructed. For identifying and quantifying new compounds, online chromatographic methods (GC-MS, MARGA/IC-MS, LC-MS) will be used and developed.
Applicant is offered to work with top class instrumentation of the field with the experienced senior researchers and to take part in field experiments. The work is very variable and challenging, and offers great possibilities for developing as a scientist. The group has excellent laboratory facilities, with the best online instrumentation for chemical characterization of the atmosphere. These resources will be available for the applicant.
We look for a Post Doc interested in measurements of atmospheric organic and/or inorganic compounds. We expect the candidate to have demonstrated research skills and good publication records. The required education is Ph.D. in chemistry, engineering, physics or atmospheric/environmental sciences. The applicant is expected to have background in atmospheric research. Knowledge of OH reactivity measurements and/or chromatographic methods and technical skills will be considered as an advantage. Good skills in written and spoken English are required.
The person will be employed for a one year with possible continuation. Full length of the project is five years.
