Dear all,
the Leibniz Institute for Tropospheric Research e.V. (TROPOS) in Leipzig (Germany) is seeking a
Postdoctoral scientist (PostDoc)
to join the research team working on the atmospheric mineral dust cycle and mechanism controlling its interannual variability. The post is located in the Modelling Department at TROPOS.
The main task of the successful candidate will be the evaluation of the MSG-SEVIRI infrared dust index over North Africa and Europe. The focus of the work is on the sensitivity of the satellite dust retrieval with regard to atmospheric dust loading, dust optical properties and atmospheric conditions and involves radiation transfer modeling using RTTOV, atmospheric dust modeling using COSMO-MUSCAT and MSG-SEVIRI satellite data. The post is an exciting opportunity for an early-career researcher to work in the thematic field at the interface between remote sensing and numerical modelling as well as soil surface and the atmosphere.
The candidate should be willing to present the results at international conferences and to publish in peer-review journals. Fluent English in written and oral form is mandatory.
Subject to funding, the open position is limited to three years. The salary level is according to the German public service regulation (TV-L 13). The position will start ideally on 1 February 2015 or soon thereafter.
Applicants should have a PhD in atmospheric physics, meteorology, physics or related environmental science disciplines and ideally have a strong background in atmospheric radiation transport calculations and optics. Interest on the atmospheric mineral dust cycle and satellite remote sensing of mineral dust is an advantage.
We are offering the possibility to work in an interdisciplinary team at a highly renowned atmospheric research institute, and in one of the most attractive cities in Germany.
Female researchers are especially encouraged to apply. Among candidates of equal aptitude and qualifications, preference will be given to a disabled person.
Please send your application including your CV and contacts of 2 references until 20.12.2014 to:
