Utrecht university is looking for a strong PhD student or postdoc for following project:
Title: Composition of Organic Aerosol during Growth Events
Description:
IMAU is looking for a motivated PhD student or Post Doctoral researcher (m/f) to study important processes leading to the growth of nanoparticles to fully grown aerosols during new particle formation (NPF) events. While there is ample evidence that organic vapours provide a large mass fraction, it is not clear which physical and/or chemical processes drive the growth. Based on PTR-TOF-MS as analytical tool, the successful candidate will set up innovative experimental methods to study the chemical composition of particles and organics in the gas phase during NPF events. After the initial tests, these methods will be applied during field campaigns at different locations in Europe as part of larger European projects.
Profile:
Applicants preferably have excellent experimental skills, theoretical knowledge on aerosol physics and/or chemistry (MSc level for PhD candidates, PhD level for postdoc candidates), experience with PTR-MS and/or aerosol measurement techniques (e.g. AMS, MARGA, PILS), and programming skills in either Phyton, IDL, Igor, or Matlab. Good English oral and writing skills are essential.
