Post-doc position: Why was sea level so high in a slightly warmer world?
IMAU is looking for a motivated Post-doc (m/f) to study the sea level during the Last Interglacial. During this period temperatures on Earth where slightly higher than during the pre-industrial period, nevertheless sea level was considerably higher. The standing idea is that part of this sea level high stand must be related to a reduction of the Antarctic ice sheet. In this project we want to focus on the physical mechanisms behind a reduced Antarctic ice sheet in this time period with an emphasis on the ice-ocean interaction. (suitable PhD candidates will also be considered for this position)
Phd position Climate and sea level modelling during the Mid-Pliocene warm period
IMAU is looking for a motivated Phd-student (m/f) to study the sea level during warm episodes in the geological past. During the Eemian, Mid-Pliocene Warm Period and the Miocene Optimum atmospheric pCO2 levels were comparable to today and slightly higher. For these periods observational data exist that can be used to constrain paleo-sensitivity and the strengths of climate feedbacks. In this project emphasis will be on climate and sea level modelling of the Mid-Pliocene warm Period.
