Description

The Physical Oceanography Department is searching for a Postdoctoral Investigator to join their team. This is a regular full-time position and is eligible for benefits. The initial appointment will be for one year with the possibility of extension to a second year.
JOB SUMMARY:
The successful candidate will participate in an international, multi-disciplinary program to study the circulation and shelf-basin exchange of Atlantic water in the Eurasian Basin of the Atlantic Ocean and its impact on the regional ecosystem. The main goal of the physical oceanographic component is to obtain a quantitative description of the water mass composition, kinematics and dynamics of the boundary current over an annual cycle. A moored array was deployed across the current near 30E from 2012-13, and hydrographic surveys were carried out as well. The candidate will work with both types of data to answer a host of questions regarding the role of the current in the Arctic system, including the influence of atmospheric forcing. The candidate will be based at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution but will interact with scientists from the collaborating institutions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE DESIRED:
Ph.D. is required with experience in observational physical oceanography (e.g. shipboard data, mooring data)
Physical duties for this position include but are not limited to a mostly sedentary environment with occasional bending, stooping, kneeling and crouching. Physical duties are subject to change.
WHOI is a member of the Higher Education Recruitment Consortium (HERC). We are sensitive to the issues of dual career candidates and we will work with applicants to address them. Please visit HERC<http://www.newenglandherc.org/home/index.cfm?site_id=660> - for more information.

Forwarded from CLIMLIST...

We are seeking a graduate student (Masters or PhD), starting in
September 2015, to work on an NSERC-funded project using climate models
to investigate tropical- extratropical teleconnections in warmer worlds.
Students with an interest in climate change and a background in Physical
Geography, Earth and Environmental Science, Math/Physics or Computer
Science, are strongly encouraged to apply.

Depending on the student?s background and interests, they can enter
either through the Department of Geography and Environmental Management
<http://environment.uwaterloo.ca/geography/index.html> or through the
Department of Applied Mathematics: <https://math.uwaterloo.ca/applied-
mathematics/home
>. In either case, the student will be closely connected
to the University?s Interdisciplinary Centre on Climate Change (IC3).

A brief description of the proposed research can be found here:
<http://www.env.uwaterloo.ca/u/c5fletch/flyers/PhD_2015_slide.pdf>. For
more information, please contact Dr Chris Fletcher (Assistant Professor,
Geography and Environmental Management, cross-appointed to Applied
Mathematics, <chris.fletcher@uwaterloo.ca>).

If you have questions about our programs, you are welcome to contact
Prof. Brent Doberstein (Associate Chair for Graduate Studies, Geography
and Environmental Management, bdoberst@uwaterloo.ca) or Prof. Hans de
Sterck (Associate Chair for Graduate Studies, Applied Mathematics,
