Applications are invited for a 4-year NERC iCASE PhD Studentship to
undertake research into processes determining stratospheric water
vapour. This will be a co-operative project between the University of
Cambridge (supervisors Professor Peter Haynes and Dr Amanda Maycock) and
the UK Met Office (supervisors Dr Neal Butchart and Dr Steven Hardiman).
Applicants should have (or expect to obtain) an honours degree (at least
2.1 or equivalent) in mathematics, physics or a similar discipline.
Experience in atmospheric science or fluid mechanics and experience of
programming would both be an advantage.

Deltares is a leading independent institute in the fields of water, subsurface and infrastructure.
We apply our expertise worldwide, to help people live safely and sustainably in delta areas,
coastal zones and river basins. The Marine and Coastal Systems Unit aims at enabling
innovative management and sustainable development of marine and coastal zones. Extensive
and in-depth knowledge of coastal processes, numerical modelling tools and a sound system
understanding constitute the state-of-the-art basis for multidisciplinary research and specialised
consultancy, executed for a diversity of clients (government agencies, consultants, contractors,
industry, universities, research funds). In R&D and non-standard consultancy projects we
combine practical relevance with high standards for quality. The unit consists of five departments,
is staffed by some 100 highly-qualified and committed professionals. The department of
Environmental Hydrodynamics (EHY) consists of 20 persons and is looking for a
Junior Hydrodynamics Modeller.
