I am seeking two post-doctoral research scholars to join my research
group (www.gabrielevillarini.com <http://www.gabrielevillarini.com>) in
the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University
of Iowa, Iowa.
The research will fall within the broad topics of hydrology and
hydroclimatology. Of particular interest is the examination of spatial
and temporal changes in extreme events, their relation to different
climate states, their predictability and projected changes. I am also
open to other related research topics.
Initial appointment is full-time for one year, with the possibility of
renewal subject to satisfactory performance and continued funding. This
position is immediately available, and the start date is relatively
flexible. Women and individuals representing underrepresented groups are

*Qualifications*
Ph.D. in a relevant science or engineering field prior to starting this
position is required. Candidates from subsets of fields including
hydrology, atmospheric sciences, climate sciences and applied statistics

Experience in downloading and analyzing large data sets and model
outputs is strongly recommended. Individuals with expertise in computer
programming (in particular R and Python) and applied statistics are
encouraged to apply.

Im Rahmen des Projektes AutoWARN (Teilautomatisierte Unterst?tzung des Warnsystems) und des Teilprojekts PVW (Produktion und Verteilung von Warnungen) soll auf der Basis von Warnstatuseinheiten ein innovatives und automatisiertes Produktionssystem zur Versorgung der Kunden des DWD's mit einem breiten Spektrum von Wetterwarnprodukten entwickelt werden. Ziel ist die Erweiterung und Flexibilisierung der Nutzung von Wetterwarnungen und -vorhersagen z.B. auch ?ber Webanwendungen und mobile Applikationen.
Das Aufgabengebiet umfasst im Wesentlichen folgende T?tigkeiten:
? Wissenschaftliche Entwicklung von Verfahren und Produkten zur Einf?hrung, ?berwachung und Pflege eines automatisierten Warnprozesses im DWD
o Entwicklung, Weiterentwicklung und Pflege von Verfahren zur automatisierten Erzeugung von Warnstatusdaten f?r Orte und Gebiete unter Nutzung und Kombination von in EWA erzeugten Warnstatusdaten auf Gitterpunkten und Polygonen
o Weiterentwicklung und Pflege von bedarfsgerechten Text- und Graphikprodukten f?r den operationellen Warndienst unter Nutzung der von Meteorologen/innen im nationalen Warnzentrum ?berarbeiteten Warnstatusdaten aus EWA sowie weiterer Daten (z.B. ZMMF)
o Weiterentwicklung und Pflege von hierarchisch angeordneten Geodaten f?r verschiedene Klassen von Warnprodukten und Produktlinien
o Design und Entwicklung abgeleiteter Kundenprodukte auf der Basis des auf Warnzellen gemappten Warnstatus
o Weiterentwicklung und Pflege von Verfahren inklusive Steuerung/Konfiguration zur automatischen Kundenversorgung im Warndienst unter Nutzung von Synergien mit bestehenden Verfahren im DWD
? Implementierung von Verfahren und Produkten
o Umsetzung und Implementierung der entwickelten Verfahren und Produkte
o Anwendungsprogrammierung mit der Programmiersprache Java oder den Programmiersprachen FORTRAN und C unter UNIX- (z.B. AIX oder Linux) und Windows-Betriebssystemen auf Basis von Produkten aus NinJo und EWA
o Konfiguration und operationelle Einf?hrung der Verfahren
o Betreuung und ?berwachung der operationellen Prozesse in der Warnproduktion
? Pr?sentation und Dokumentation der Arbeitsergebnisse
Unerl?ssliche Qualifikationen zur Aus?bung des Dienstpostens sind:
? Ein erfolgreich abgeschlossenes Hochschulstudium (Universit?tsdiplom oder Master) einschl?giger Fachrichtung, vorzugsweise der Informatik oder Meteorologie
? Fundierte Kenntnisse in der Anwendungsprogrammierung unter Java aufgrund praktisch nachgewiesener einschl?giger Erfahrungen von mindestens 2 Jahren
? Sichere Kenntnisse der deutschen (mindestens Level C1 CEFR) und englischen (mindestens Level B1 CEFR) Sprache in Wort und Schrift

Der Dienstposten ist nach Entgeltgruppe 14 TV EntgO Bund bewertet. Die Eingruppierung erfolgt grunds?tzlich nach Entgeltgruppe 14 TV?D. Die Zuordnung zu den Stufen erfolgt unter Ber?cksichtigung der pers?nlichen Voraussetzungen.

The Geophysical Institute (www.uib.no/en/gfi) has a vacancy for a research fellow (PhD candidate) in numerical modeling and experimental meteorology. The position is for a fixed term of 4 years and is associated with the research group in meteorology.
We seek an enthusiastic and creative PhD candidate to join the forefront of the rapidly evolving field of stable isotope meteorology. The overall aim of the project will be to develop new approaches for using the observed stable isotope composition of water vapour and precipitation as an additional constraint to weather and climate models. The position will involve both experimental work in the field and laboratory, as well as numerical modeling. The aim of the work will be to contribution to our understand of patterns in ice cores and other climate archives from a meteorological perspective.

Fugro GEOS is part of part of the multi-national Fugro Group and is one of the world's leading companies specialising in oceanographic, meteorological and structural engineering measurement, assessment and consultancy.
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Numerical Modeller to join our expanding meteorological and oceanographic modelling team in the UK.
The team produce hindcast and forecast models of wind, wave and current processes for clients in the offshore, coastal engineering and renewable energy sectors. The successful applicant will join an experienced team of atmospheric, wave and hydrodynamic modellers, who are producing new products for clients operating in challenging environments worldwide.
Experience required:
? At least 3 years? experience of setting up and running WRF models
? Experience modelling cyclone events
? A good knowledge of running models under the Linux operating system
? Model validation and assessment
Beneficial, but not essential, would be experience in one or more of the following areas:
? SWAN and/or WaveWatch III modelling
? Delft - 3D and/or MITgcm ocean modelling
? Matlab programming
If you have the above experience and an MSc or higher (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline we would be very interested to hear from you.
The post is full time basis and is based in our Wallingford (UK) office.
