Postdoctoral Positions at the University of California Los Angeles
(UCLA)
The UCLA Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences (AOS) seeks candidates
for two postdoctoral positions. One of the positions is for a NSF funded project on
the dynamics of the middle atmosphere. This project focuses on the lower
stratosphere over Antarctica and has two main themes: 1) inertial and gravity wave
fields, and 2) transport processes and Rossby wave breaking. The other position is
with a NOAA funded project on the dynamics of the coupled atmosphere-ocean
system. This project focuses on the tropical Pacific and the fundamental subject of
error generation and evolution in the simulation of the regional climate by coupled
atmosphere-ocean general circulation models (CGCMs).
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in atmospheric and/or oceanic sciences or a related
discipline at the time of appointment. Prior experience in numerical modeling of the
atmosphere and/or ocean is highly desirable. A working knowledge of programming
languages such as Fortran and data analysis tools such Matlab is required.
Applicants will be expected to show evidence of their potential through letters of
recommendation and documentation of their related experience. Salary will be
commensurate with experience and qualifications and based on the UC pay scale.
The positions are available immediately and the initial appointment will be for one
year.
The UCLA Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences is a vibrant and
collaborative department whose faculty in atmospheric and ocean dynamics have
long-standing strengths in the theory and modeling of large-scale circulations, moist
convective processes, the general circulation, climate dynamics and the application
of modern applied mathematics to problems in atmospheric and oceanic sciences.
Applicants should submit a letter of application stating research interests and
experience, along with curriculum vitae, and the names of 2 references to:
