Hello,

Please note that the closing date for this advert has been changed.

I would like to advertise the following exciting opportunity that has arisen in my team.

Some key points to note are:

* the vacancy is open to EU and non-EU applicants with a closing date of 27 July 2015.

* The Met Office uses an application form for recruitment and the process is based on evidence provided for the specific criteria that are listed (see below). CVs are not considered as evidence during the application process. If it's not on the form and relevant to the criteria, it can't be considered.

* The vacancy is aimed at the Scientist/Senior Scientist level and is fixed term for 3 years. Your evidence for the essential/desirable criteria will determine at which level your application is assessed.

Team description

The team in which this post sits has a varied portfolio and changes year-on-year, and sometimes within-year. It is certainly never dull! One example of a new project which is just kicking off is the development of a hydro-meteorological capability to assess ensemble-based catchment-based precipitation at the km-scale, as well as ensemble forecasts of stream flow, both of which are of interest in the context of Environmental Prediction, where we couple atmospheric, ocean and land surface processes, to name but some of the components. Other notable current activities include collaborating with other Met Services in considering tropical performance, global surface weather and how to assess the impact of observation uncertainty on the typical metrics we use. You need to have the skills and be able to be flexible. If you enjoy understanding what the statistics mean (or developing new metrics to help us understand) and are excited by the prospect of identifying potential issues which will ultimately help to make our models and forecasts better, then this is an ideal opportunity for you.

For the full advert follow the link from here:
