Postdoctoral Position in Atmospheric Dynamics, Indiana University
The Atmospheric Group in the Department of Geological Sciences, Indiana University is looking for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant. Research is aimed at understanding the dynamics of hurricanes and conducting numerical simulations of hurricane-like vortices. The successful candidate is expected to possess mathematical skill in compressible fluid and nonlinear dynamical systems. Candidates must have a PhD in applied mathematics, computer sciences, physics, or atmospheric sciences. Knowledge and/or experience with numerical modeling is desirable. Indiana University runs a state-of-the-art computing center with a supercomputer Big Red II that possesses peak performance at the PetaFlops level as well as advanced data storage archive, providing a top-tier center for Earth system modeling and data analysis. As such, the candidate will have opportunities to explore and conduct numerical experiments, using such a superb HPC infrastructure. The candidate should be eager to communicate results at scientific meetings and publish in peer-reviewed journals. S/he should be also motivated, and be prepared to interact with atmospheric scientists and geophysicists.
The initial appointment for the position is 1 year, and can be extended to the second year upon successful performance and availability of funding. Salary commensurate with experiences. The candidate will be jointly supervised by Prof. Chanh Kieu (Department of Geological Sciences) and Prof. Shouhong Wang (Department of Mathematics).
